I know there's always something newer and more advanced waiting around the corner, but at this stage we're talking about only a few weeks. I have an older 42" already, so there isn't some great rush to buy today, but the price on the 50PZ80U is really hard to pass up.

So I can buy the 50PZ80U for just under 11 today at a local retailer. Or I can wait for the 50S1. It sounds like the MSRP on the 50S1 is going to be 18 so I'd guess sale prices will hit 15.

I know the decision is ultimately mine, but what would you guys do? I'm probably looking at a 400 difference.

new one are better, with better contrast ratio, for lower prices you have to wait at least few months.

I just picked up the 50PZ80U for less than 12. I moved up from a 42PX75U and have been very happy with it. I have thought about taking it back and picking up the new S1, but it will take a while for it to get as cheap as the PZ80. I say get the PZ, and enjoy it, but thats just me. I mean no matter what you get, something "better" will come out next year.

Go figure, one saying wait, another saying go for it! Anyone else want to chime in with their opinion?

The PZ80u is a bargain right now, i'd have my doubts that you'd get the 2009 model at similar pricing. Pay less now, and upgrade sooner :) rather than paying more now, and upgrading later.

The only reasons to wait are better black levels and improvments in phosphor lag, if none of those bother you, then upgrade now, if they do, wait for the S1.

(they bother me so I have to wait)

Personally I would wait and see how much better the new models are.

Pen....will the color points be less spectacularly aweful? What about color management, any in the 09 line below the top end?

I've been asking that in the 09 Panny thread for a while, nobody has answered me yet. :(

The G series is THX certified so there is some hope there....
(I really wish that the 58inch sets weren't so far off, I want all the extras that the Neo sets offer (reduced phosphor trails are a big plus for me), but 50inch is too small, need a 54 or 58 inch. :D)

If it wasn't for the phosphor trails, I would grab a 58pz800 from Amazon due to the insane price on it.

Guess no one will know until they drop everywhere.
The 720p models are online at BB, wonder if they have them in-store yet to check this?

There is already an owner in the thread, but he hasn't really reported yet (it is his first HDTV as far as I can tell), everyone is waiting for the Neo sets next month.
