hi everyone, my 4676 has started having a problem with randomly turning off. i have read that this is a known problem with these sets and have also read how to try and open it up and clean dirt out of it. being i am not comfortable doing that, should i take it in to have it repaired or should i bite the bullet and buy a new tv? i have only had this tv for 2 years and 3 months but i do use it every nite for a few hours. i just don't know if it is worth taking it in to fix it-i do like the picture when i am watching ota hd but must admit sd cable is awful on the set. any opinions out there? thanks

getting it repaired would probably be much cheaper than getting a new tv.
i say get it repaired.
but i'm kind of a cheap guy, so yeah.

I have one of these also. No problems with mine so far. (knock on wood) What is this "known problem" you are referring to?

the randomly turning off
What's the failure and correction for this?

It could be a number of things. Off the top of my head it sounds like either over heating or some sort of power issue. Could be the power cable or power supply going bad. If none of those are it, then it is probably the dlp lamp.
that's my guess anyways.

well it is odd because it went off last nite after about 45 minutes of viewing. i did get it back on shortly thereafter and it was fine the rest of the nite. it did the same thing the nite before. so, how could it be overheating being on for so little time and then fine for hours afterwards? it is on a stand in a corner with nothing restricting airflow-

Still on your original bulb? Mine is. I've had my set since November 2006, so it's about the same age as yours.

yep, original bulb. its a nice tv and i hate to lose it but don't want an expensive repair bill since it is out of warranty. sd looks crummy on it though, but ota hd is good.

I think this is fairly common & usually fixed by replacing the ballast for the lamp.
