As a bad omen to us 'scope' owners, my dvd of TPOTC shows the subtitles spilling into the black bar area....sigh, I may have to pass on the BD (as I did with 'La Femme Nikita', 'Black Book', 'Red Cliff', and other foreign language BD films) and continue watching my dvd thru my Samsung 1080P upconverting player so that I can use that player's exclusive 'EZView' feature to move the subs back up into the image area.... :(

Truthfully,I was confused with this issue,My opinion all the movie had subtitles all running time(because in the movie was Hebrew lanqauge,Right?).Saw this BD this afernoon I nearly slept again,My god it was ?????????to man in history.This BD was good but not great transfer for picture and the surround used was subtle,not quite agressive moment as I remember.

just forget one thing,this film aspect ratio is 2.4:1 which will be fitted to CIH.Also this is FOX BD ,so the subtitles must be in picture frame then you need not to worry,also titles from Universal,Paramount/Dreamworks.

I will hopefully be getting this tomorrow and if no one else replies I will.

Not sure - but it would help if you spelled out the entire name of the movie. It took me a while to figure out you were talking about The Passion of the Christ.

Butsu, are the subs in the image or do they extend into the black bars?totally on the cinemascope screen,not on the below black bar.I was wrong about the sound,in fact there was ambient surround all the movie and the agressive one at near the end of the movie(just saw again for 2 nd times for this BD).

Let us 'pray' that butsu is right! As an aside, I previously had an asian dvd of 'Shinobi', which had all the subs contained within the image area. Based on that, I picked up the N.American BD of 'Shinobi', which to my dismay, had the subs spilling into the black bar. I guess subtitle placement even varies between format and country of origin. :confused:

D-Theater had them in the image and they were theatrical burnt ones, BD better be the same or this home boy will **** :mad:

Thread title changed. One quick search suggestion....use advance search, title search only option. Limit search words to one at a time. In this case, passion would have generated this thread (assuming one would try Christ as the first search word).

Next question: Is it region free?

I bought this film on Blu last Autumn when it was released here in Spain. Much to my dismay the version released here was cropped to 16:9! Horrible! Especially as I am a CIH person.

I'm really hoping this edition can replace the one I've got. I haven't even sat through an entire showing of my version I was so steamed about the aspect ratio.

the version I saw is definitely 2.4:1,fill with my scope screen.If it was croped then my anamophic's lens won't work cause it is mortorised and set as 2.4:1 mode only.:)

try again without lens and the picture was 2.4:1 aspect ratio.

Looking forward in watching this but won't watch until Good Friday.

Region free and subs in the right place for Scope? Great! I'm picking this one up.

I'll probably try to sell my current copy to get a few € for the cropped edition, although I might end up keeping it just to put in my own little Blu "Hall of Shame" alongside my also cropped edition of The Mist.

Let's pray for Warner and Sony put the subtitles in the image area as Fox,Universal,Paramount always do either CIH or 16:9 screen owners.
