View Full Version : Where are The Passion of the Christ subtitles located? shamus 02-16-09, 04:04 PM Wanted to know if the subtitles are located in the picture for CIH before I order.... anybody confirm? Thanks. shamus 02-16-09, 10:16 PM nobody knows yet? ambientcafe 02-17-09, 12:50 AM As a bad omen to us 'scope' owners, my dvd of TPOTC shows the subtitles spilling into the black bar area....sigh, I may have to pass on the BD (as I did with 'La Femme Nikita', 'Black Book', 'Red Cliff', and other foreign language BD films) and continue watching my dvd thru my Samsung 1080P upconverting player so that I can use that player's exclusive 'EZView' feature to move the subs back up into the image area.... :( Franin 02-17-09, 06:32 AM Mine is arriving Friday, if no one lets you know before then I'll check butsu 02-17-09, 08:56 AM Truthfully,I was confused with this issue,My opinion all the movie had subtitles all running time(because in the movie was Hebrew lanqauge,Right?).Saw this BD this afernoon I nearly slept again,My god it was ?????????to man in history. This BD was good but not great transfer for picture and the surround used was subtle, not quite agressive moment as I remember. butsu 02-17-09, 08:59 AM Wanted to know if the subtitles are located in the picture for CIH before I order.... anybody confirm? Thanks. Don't worry,I also CIH too with EPIC Supernova curve cinemascope.:) butsu 02-17-09, 09:28 AM Wanted to know if the subtitles are located in the picture for CIH before I order.... anybody confirm? Thanks. just forget one thing, this film aspect ratio is 2.4:1 which will be fitted to CIH.Also this is FOX BD ,so the subtitles must be in picture frame then you need not to worry, also titles from Universal,Paramount/Dreamworks. shamus 02-17-09, 10:07 AM Butsu, are the subs in the image or do they extend into the black bars? DblHelix 02-17-09, 11:37 AM Truthfully,I was confused with this issue,My opinion all the movie had subtitles all running time(because in the movie was Hebrew lanqauge,Right?).Saw this BD this afernoon I nearly slept again,My god it was ?????????to man in history. This BD was good but not great transfer for picture and the surround used was subtle, not quite agressive moment as I remember. I will hopefully be getting this tomorrow and if no one else replies I will. Also, the film is a combination of Aramaic, the language of Christ, Hebrew and Latin. shamus 02-17-09, 11:52 AM As a bad omen to us 'scope' owners, my dvd of TPOTC shows the subtitles spilling into the black bar area....sigh, I may have to pass on the BD (as I did with 'La Femme Nikita', 'Black Book', 'Red Cliff', and other foreign language BD films) and continue watching my dvd thru my Samsung 1080P upconverting player so that I can use that player's exclusive 'EZView' feature to move the subs back up into the image area.... :( Lets hope this one is different. shamus 02-17-09, 11:53 AM I will hopefully be getting this tomorrow and if no one else replies I will. Also, the film is a combination of Aramaic, the language of Christ, Hebrew and Latin. Thanks. stumlad 02-17-09, 11:59 AM Not sure - but it would help if you spelled out the entire name of the movie. It took me a while to figure out you were talking about The Passion of the Christ. butsu 02-17-09, 12:43 PM Butsu, are the subs in the image or do they extend into the black bars?totally on the cinemascope screen, not on the below black bar.I was wrong about the sound,in fact there was ambient surround all the movie and the agressive one at near the end of the movie(just saw again for 2 nd times for this BD). shamus 02-17-09, 12:50 PM thanks butsu. butsu 02-17-09, 01:04 PM thanks butsu. Same here .1080p with scope; you can see the wounds more scary. ambientcafe 02-17-09, 02:45 PM totally on the cinemascope screen, not on the below black bar. Let us 'pray' that butsu is right! As an aside, I previously had an asian dvd of 'Shinobi', which had all the subs contained within the image area. Based on that, I picked up the N.American BD of 'Shinobi', which to my dismay, had the subs spilling into the black bar. I guess subtitle placement even varies between format and country of origin. Gary Murrell 02-17-09, 03:53 PM D-Theater had them in the image and they were theatrical burnt ones, BD better be the same or this home boy will **** -Gary rboster 02-17-09, 05:16 PM Not sure - but it would help if you spelled out the entire name of the movie. It took me a while to figure out you were talking about The Passion of the Christ. Thread title changed. One quick search suggestion....use advance search, title search only option. Limit search words to one at a time. In this case, passion would have generated this thread (assuming one would try Christ as the first search word). Cristobal 02-17-09, 06:45 PM Next question: Is it region free? I bought this film on Blu last Autumn when it was released here in Spain. Much to my dismay the version released here was cropped to 16:9! Horrible! Especially as I am a CIH person. I'm really hoping this edition can replace the one I've got. I haven't even sat through an entire showing of my version I was so steamed about the aspect ratio. paku 02-17-09, 07:13 PM Region free according to MovieTyme (http://movietyme.blogspot.com/2009/02/passion-of-christ-blu-ray-region-free.html). shamus 02-17-09, 07:38 PM was cropped to 16:9! Horrible! Yikes!!!!!! AT least the subs would be in the image.:D butsu 02-17-09, 09:17 PM Yikes!!!!!! AT least the subs would be in the image.:D the version I saw is definitely 2.4:1,fill with my scope screen. If it was croped then my anamophic's lens won't work cause it is mortorised and set as 2.4:1 mode only.:) butsu 02-17-09, 10:45 PM try again without lens and the picture was 2.4:1 aspect ratio. Franin 02-18-09, 06:14 AM Looking forward in watching this but won't watch until Good Friday. Cristobal 02-18-09, 05:57 PM Region free and subs in the right place for Scope? Great! I'm picking this one up. I'll probably try to sell my current copy to get a few € for the cropped edition, although I might end up keeping it just to put in my own little Blu "Hall of Shame" alongside my also cropped edition of The Mist. butsu 02-18-09, 09:01 PM Let's pray for Warner and Sony put the subtitles in the image area as Fox,Universal,Paramount always do either CIH or 16:9 screen owners. ElChupacabra 02-18-09, 09:20 PM Okay, so how is the PQ? butsu 02-18-09, 11:06 PM Okay, so how is the PQ? Kind of good but not reference one.just my opinion. ambientcafe 02-18-09, 11:37 PM Besides 'butsu's response, can anyone else confirm that the entire subs are contained within the image area? shamus 02-19-09, 01:21 AM Besides 'butsu's response, can anyone else confirm that the entire subs are contained within the image area? Anyone else confirm?????
