I have artifact issues that I need resolved. I have replaced my DVR, purchased a high price line filter in order to isolate the 5020 as the culprit.
These artifacts are horizontal bands that are much more prevalent on lesser quality feeds.
I can get this on several channels but TNTHD seems pretty easy to find it. These horizontal bands can be found on the edge of moving objects, and they can also fill the moving objects and the entire screen for that matter. If this is common among Kuros, this should be easily duplicated and equally easy to see. I am asking 5020 owners to help me in troubleshooting this issue under the following conditions or as close as possible.
1. DIRECTV
a. Can be set to native on or off
b. HDMI or Component
c. Can enable all resolutions on DVR, doesn't matter
2. Purecinema on anything but OFF. Standard seems to do it the most.
3. Full or anything other than Dot by Dot. For some reason it doesn’t do it with Dot by Dot.
4. Less than ideal content TNTHD content fits that bill. The worse the quality, the easier to see this. I see it on Law and order and Charmed right now.
5. When the conditions are met, you can greatly amplify the effect by rewinding and then pressing the fast forward once to FW1. Ever other frame or so you will see the entire screen display horizontal bars in many cases.
I have another Kuro on the way and I want to eliminate as much as possible before it gets here. I am very fearful that the new one will be the same. I know you guys think I am crazy but I can assure you that this is in fact happening and it is bad enough that I would not want this set if it is in fact part of the package.
Notes:
It does do it to less of an extent on DVDs but does do it.
I can play back recorded shows and see it exactly the same way each time in each scene. This is a bit odd and pointed me towards the DVR but the new one has made no difference.
Orbiter 1 2 and off makes no difference
Does it in all modes and not just Standard or Game which I prefer
The bars do not oscillate so it is not power related, plus I just bought a high end Monster filter.
I know if this is typical, people would have seen it, but your patience and testing is greatly appreciated.
