I've read many posts & am still confused, your input appreciated. My audio/video is working OK for TV and DVD - but I don't think it's set up correctly. Two things I'm concerned with - 1: the audio connections OUT from my BluRay player. 2: Under the Denon settings should AutoSurround =ON? Setup/Settings below-
Motorola DVR 3416:
HDMI to TV
Single cord Out to Denon "Coaxial IN"
Philips 7200 BluRay:
HDMI to TV
Digital Out= to Denon "Optical IN"
Audio Out= red/white to Denon "TV/DBS"
Denon 485 (no HDMI)
Pre-Out/Sub= LineIn on Sub
L,R,Center,RL,RR (at measured distances)
All speakers set to "small"
SW Mode=norm
Cross over=100Hz
16=coax tv
17=Opt DVD
AutoSurround=on
Ext IN= SW+15

Why are you using an analog connection from your BR player in addition to the digital connection? Not necessary unless you have a specific reason you are doing that.
What are your speakers? I am assuming that you know that the 100Hz crossover setting is correct.
What do you mean by:
"16=coax tv
17=Opt DVD"
What is "16" and "17"?
"Auto Surround" simply stores the setting you used for any particular input sgnal so that that signal will be processed identically next time the receiver is presented with that same type of input signal. So, "ON" is fine.
The Ext IN sub boost is irrelevant to you and your connections.
How did you calibrate your speakers' and sub's levels?
Why do you think something is not set up correctly?
Thanks for the quick reply. I thought something was wrong given the 2 different audio out connections from the BR player, and I cannot get DTS light on Denon to illuminate. When watching "DTS" enabled movies the reciever shows PCM:48hhz. When I manually select DTS as input on Denon I get no sound. Since your reply - I've unplugged the analog & confirmed that connection was not needed - thanks for the help on that. I should have left off the "16 and 17" numbers in my orig post- those are just the numerical steps in the Denon set up menu. I have not yet calibrated using a test CD and external mic - but I have input the individual speaker distances from center viewing position. Is the lack of DTS expected given my set up?

The speaker distance settings ONLY affect the relative delay of each channel. You need to calibrate the speakers' and sub's OUTPUT levels properly. This is important. I do not think an external mic will be useful to you with that receiver as it doesn't have any sort of auto-calibration feature. If you want to use a calibration DVD (not CD!) you will need an SPL meter. But you can calibrate the speaker levels "by ear", for now.
Thanks for the direction, I went back into BR settings & changed HDMI Audio from "HDMI Normal" to "OFF". I now show Format3/2/.1 DTS on playback - thanks!
