I have an older (2003) Sony A/V Receiver. (STR-DE985) And I sometimes have troubel handling DD 5.1 via Digital Optical Out. I have a BD 35 for BD player. (i know all about secondary audio and its proper settings)
I have found that some Movies DD is a higher bitrate and this causes my receiver to drop the audio when the audio output is higher for loud or action scenes. I have watch many BDs and they are fine, but on some movies, I have to switch to the DTS track or switch to PCM for 2 channel.
I may have to get a different BD Player (one that outputs analog) or get a new receiver.
However, until then, I am curious to know what the audio bitrate is on movies, where can I find this information?

The DTS tracks are almost certainly at a higher bitrate than all of your Dolby stuff. If you're talking BDs then it should be nearly 3 times as high as the DD tracks.
What you have sounds like more of a wattage issue. Anyway bitrates are in the Video and Audio specifications thread.

I had a old Sony receiver that did the same thing. It was the STR-DE875.
If I ran DD at 640k then the audio would drop out at the loud parts. If I ran DTS at 1.5mbps I had no problems. I watched everything through my HTPC so I used ac3filter & reencoded the DD to I believe 540k. Its been awhile I could be mistaken about the exact freq. It was in the 500 range.
I have since upgraded the receiver & it handles DD 640k just fine. Also DD true-hd when I run through the HDMI inputs.. :)
I hope this helps. My solution was a new receiver.

Thanks for the input. Wattage issue? Hmm, I will ahve to consider that as an option of issue. What strikes me odd is that other DD5.1 tracks play just fine. Its only on some movies. And always the DTS tracks play.
I know its probably time for a new receiver, but I really love my Sony and know it well and it is so versatile. I just want to know/understand what is going on.

I disagree. My question is about the encoding bitrates of the audio found on the software.
And someone could also just as easily dismiss me to the Reciever/Amp forum as well.

I disagree. My question is about the encoding bitrates of the audio found on the software.Nope. I've seen plenty of legacy equipment (including a mid-90s Sony receiver that still had an AC-3 decoder for Laserdisc!) handle higher-bitrate DD and DTS tracks with no problems. Hell, high-bitrate tracks (i.e., higher than 448kbps) have even been on DVDs for almost a decade.
Your issue has nothing to do with the software itself. This seems exclusive to your equipment and/or setup.
And someone could also just as easily dismiss me to the Reciever/Amp forum as well.Which is where the problem actually seems to be.
