I have a Scientific Atlanta HD8240 cable box, a 50" Samsung HPT-5054 720p plasma and a PS3.

My HD video looks great, but I want to make sure I am getting the best SD display that I can with my equipment. Should I be letting the cable box and the PS3 upscale or just have the TV do it all?

Thanks in advance.

Try either/both and use what looks best to you. There is no right or wrong.

I have a HP-S5053. I would def. let the PS3 scale your DVD's. I found upconverting to 720p produced better results than to 1080i.

I found my TV did a better job on SD cable than my cable box. The TV processing was much cleaner, while the cable box was sharper it was also had alot more noise. I guess whatever you prefer there.

I think our TV's are quite similar, my buddy also has an HP-T5054, but I haven't play with it like I have my own. The PS3 should win for DVD's, easily, but mess around with your cable. Also, I don't know if this will differ between our models, but I found HDMI to have slightly more noise than component. I don't know if that has to do with my cable box or my TV.
