Hi all,

I've been shopping for a wifi-enabled projector for the office. We want to be able to hang the projector on the ceiling and allow a small working group to share it without having to move a cable. While I have seen Wifi projectors and adaptors, it seems they generally support only Windows or have silly limitations like 15fps. If anyone has used one of these with a Mac, please let me know which one and how it is working for you.

Is this technology just not "there" yet? That seems crazy to me as the buzz started back in 2002. With 'n' wifi one would think we could get video-quality streaming wirelessly to a projector in this age.

Thanks all!

"wifi projector" usually means it can be networked wirelessly. Not that you can send video over wifi.

I have never had good luck with any wireless video sender that is less than $500 and only marginally good with more expensive units. They can also interfere with wireless routers in the area, not fun in that respect either.

Use a cable, it is cheaper and easier.

Unfortunately, I am afraid your last statement is probably right.
Anyway, WiFi connection usually means multiple clients connecting to a common IP gateway.
What you want is a remote switch connecting a single IP client (the projector) to multiple IP sources (the participants).
I am sure it can be done with some intelligent programming on top of WiFi, but I don't remember having seen anything like that lately on Mac side, since it probably requires a specific plugin on the Mac laptop side.
But you may want to check if your Windows-compatible WiFi projectors actually DO require such a plugin on Windows laptop : if not, it may also work with Macs, even if they have not tested, and do not explicitly support it. YMMV.

Furthermore, depending on what you want to project (still images or HD video content), WiFi bandwidth may be insufficient.
For instance, even the expensive Gefen Wireless HDMI Extender (http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=4318) does not support 1080@60Hz, which is below maximum Mac resolution.

I have a client using a ceiling-mounted InFocus projector with a wireless add on that InFocus provides. However, it only works with PCs, not Macs. Wish that could change because it almost has me buying a PC laptop just to participate in those meetings.
