View Full Version : Quarantine General Kenobi 02-17-09, 01:25 PM This is out today, anyone get their copy yet? Was Ralph's review spot on as usual? Was Ralph's review spot on as usual? I missed it in theaters so am looking forward to seeing it. I ordered a copy of [REC] too so I can compare. Have both on order, but have not received either one yet. Have heard very mixed things about Quarantine. I have not seen either one, so blind buy for me. 357 02-17-09, 04:23 PM I thought that it was pretty good. JaylisJayP 02-17-09, 05:46 PM It was decent. Ending was extremely predictable, but still a fun movie to watch. oink 02-17-09, 06:30 PM NF copy arrives today...where is [rec] on BD? Blacklac 02-17-09, 06:42 PM I think the only copy of [REC] with English subs is the Spanish release, which is 1080i50. I could be wrong, but that's the info I've gathered. I decided to wait and watch [REC] first, still waiting for my Spanish release to come in! General Kenobi 02-17-09, 06:48 PM I bought [REC] on dvd with the English dub track or original Spanish with English subs (both DD 5.1) mainly to satisfy my curiocity (and Manuela Velasco;)) and because it cost a fraction of the BD import. I rented Quarantine... I've leared horror movies are much more risky to blind buy. butsu 02-17-09, 09:24 PM I think this is the must BD to pick for this month. Can't wait. stumlad 02-17-09, 11:14 PM Got it from Netflix today and watched it. Pretty decent horror movie. The PQ is about as good as it can be given the way it was recorded, but it's definitely not for those seeking eye candy. The sound is pretty decent too. donaldsonjune 02-17-09, 11:44 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS5trh6Nkbg Dave Mack 02-17-09, 11:47 PM I saw it in a REALLY crappy theater and still really dug it. Looking forward to the BD... CHG 02-18-09, 01:23 AM I think the only copy of [REC] with English subs is the Spanish release, which is 1080i50. I could be wrong, but that's the info I've gathered. The Spanish version has English subtitles for just the movie. Better extras on the Spanish version. UK version is region 2, though. oink 02-18-09, 03:27 AM The video on this BD is fairly good, considering what the filmmaker is trying to do here. The audio is excellent, with constant surround action.:) Blacklac 02-18-09, 07:03 AM According to dvdcompare, the UK version has English sub titles for the movie and the extras. I haven't heard anything about a UK [REC] BD Edit: The UK region 2 is a SD DVD. I was talking about Bluray. ;) butsu 02-18-09, 08:37 AM this remake did do frame by frame from REC.This film didn't adapted the story just a sec.btw, very good sound and pic transfer. metalsaber 02-18-09, 11:41 AM So for someone that likes horror/zombie type movies, will I like this? Thanks joerod 02-18-09, 03:03 PM I just ordered it. Why not? :) oink 02-18-09, 03:46 PM So for someone that likes horror/zombie type movies, will I like this? Thanks Dunno if you will like it...but, here is my take... Pros: Plenty scary Good AV quality Gore to go Good character development Lots of deserving victims Cons: Not much of a plot Lead character should have been first to the meat grinder Little replay value Too damn much shaky-cam:mad: Rip-off of Blair Witch, The Descent, Cloverfield Not very creative One-trick poney YMMV;) Toe 02-18-09, 04:10 PM Watched this last night.....great rent, but would be a bad buy IMO. Great audio, and good video. This is a one and done though IMO. zoey67 02-19-09, 04:04 AM really boring uneventful 1st 20 min, then things got really good n scary with the zombies looking and acting like they did. not bad Had sooo much potential but pooped out in the end. worth the rent not to own. jason10mm 02-19-09, 09:01 AM I thought this flick was HORRIBLE! How many times does some one have to stick their neck over a victim or turn their head with a "zombie" right in front of them? The burly camera guy rarely helped, no one thought about getting weapons or protecting their skin, the entire idea of putting everyone downstairs was silly to begin with. Lead chick had WAY too much crying, screaming, hyperventilating, and moaning. Interesting premise, ruined by generic zombie cliches that only a 5 year old couldn't see coming. joerod 02-20-09, 07:48 PM Watching it tonite with guests... They're pretty excited! joerod 02-21-09, 10:03 AM They really liked it! Seriously. :D Fanaticalism 02-21-09, 10:36 AM This is the first horror movie that actually startled me in a loooooooong time. The mix was very well done with some nice bass to boot. General Kenobi 02-21-09, 12:26 PM Ok, so now that I've watched both [REC] and Quarantine here are my thoughts. Neither were all that scary IMO. I thought Quarantine had a few more graphic scenes which I liked but Jennifer Carpenter and her camera man were so damn annoying that it distracted from the horror of the scary moments. Carpenter totally over acted the character and I just wanted some one to knock her out. Manuela Valesco on the other hand was great, I really enjoyed watching her;) and she seemed very authentic. There were a few jumpy scenes but the only one I really found scary was towards the end. All in all REC is clearly the better movie and they are not scene for scene identical but close to. If it wasn't for Manuela Valesco it would have been pretty weak and to be honest I probably enjoyed Mirrors more as far as recent horror movie rentals. just my 2¢ so YMMV:p Toe 02-21-09, 12:55 PM I thought the movie was OK. The lead role was definately overdone as far as the acting though which took away from it a bit. The sound mix was awesome. RY35AN 02-22-09, 02:40 AM Oh my God....that chick WAY over did it. Talk about annoying! The whole time I kept thinking if it was me I would have knocked her out. oink 02-22-09, 04:21 AM Carpenter totally over acted the character and I just wanted some one to knock her out. Or, as I indicated above, she should have been fed to the critters from the get go.:D At any rate, to be fair to her, she was probably TOLD to react that way...;) Blacklac 02-22-09, 10:28 AM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS5trh6Nkbg That looks homemade... I haven't watched Quarentine to compare, but the end of [REC] just disturbed me. lol I like horror movies too. Perhaps it was the realism, I don't know. I agree the reporter in [REC] did an excellent job! jsil 02-22-09, 03:50 PM RY35AN, I was feeling the say thing just shut up for once. butsu 02-22-09, 09:26 PM I saw REC.BD in AMZ.COM,ordered already. Blacklac 02-22-09, 09:53 PM I saw REC.BD in AMZ.COM,ordered already. I don't think that one has English subs. Don't know if that matters to you... Also, I believe it is in 1080i50. butsu 02-22-09, 10:07 PM I don't think that one has English subs. Don't know if that matters to you... Also, I believe it is in 1080i50. Agreed, this Spanish BD may be like you told that I am anxious to know now.:) CHG 03-07-09, 02:24 AM According to IMDB [REC] 2 is filming. butsu 03-08-09, 09:20 AM Just saw this BD and didn't enjoy as I expected.Jenifer Carpenter looked good but I hate the camera thing. phisch 03-08-09, 11:48 PM I enjoyed the movie overall, but it was really the second half of the film that really drew me into the story. butsu 03-08-09, 11:53 PM I enjoyed the movie overall, but it was really the second half of the film that really drew me into the story. Absolutely agreed,it was some sort of rabies or something, the movie didn't explain.:) zoey67 03-25-09, 01:34 PM Afterthought the premise of this film had really great potential to be a sleeper classic. But the ameteurish skills of the unexperienced director held it back from reaching it's potential. You can't help it to think that in better hands like say clive barker or the guy who did the descent would have taken off with this material yes? jbug 03-26-09, 12:44 PM A rental at best. I got this from Netflix and was FFWD through stuff. The female lead character aggrivated after a few minutes in and moreso with her constant irritating screaming. She got what was coming to her for bad acting (he,he). |
