Have both on order, but have not received either one yet. Have heard very mixed things about Quarantine. I have not seen either one, so blind buy for me.

I thought that it was pretty good.

It was decent. Ending was extremely predictable, but still a fun movie to watch.

I think the only copy of [REC] with English subs is the Spanish release, which is 1080i50. I could be wrong, but that's the info I've gathered.

I bought [REC] on dvd with the English dub track or original Spanish with English subs (both DD 5.1) mainly to satisfy my curiocity (and Manuela Velasco;)) and because it cost a fraction of the BD import. I rented Quarantine... I've leared horror movies are much more risky to blind buy.

I think this is the must BD to pick for this month.Can't wait.

Got it from Netflix today and watched it. Pretty decent horror movie. The PQ is about as good as it can be given the way it was recorded, but it's definitely not for those seeking eye candy. The sound is pretty decent too.

According to dvdcompare, the UK version has English sub titles for the movie and the extras. The Spanish version has English subtitles for just the movie. Better extras on the Spanish version. UK version is region 2, though.

The video on this BD is fairly good, considering what the filmmaker is trying to do here.
The audio is excellent, with constant surround action.:eek::)

Hmm, I'm only seeing the Spanish BD on their site. I haven't heard anything about a UK [REC] BD

Edit: The UK region 2 is a SD DVD. I was talking about Bluray. ;)

this remake did do frame by frame from REC.This film didn't adapted the story just a sec.btw,very good sound and pic transfer.

Dunno if you will like it...but, here is my take...

Pros:
Plenty scary
Good AV quality
Gore to go
Good character development
Lots of deserving victims

Cons:
Not much of a plot
Lead character should have been first to the meat grinder
Little replay value
Too damn much shaky-cam:mad:
Rip-off of Blair Witch, The Descent, Cloverfield
Not very creative
One-trick poney

YMMV;)

Watched this last night.....great rent, but would be a bad buy IMO. Great audio, and good video. This is a one and done though IMO.

really boring uneventful 1st 20 min, then things got really good n scary with the zombies looking and acting like they did. not bad

I thought this flick was HORRIBLE! How many times does some one have to stick their neck over a victim or turn their head with a "zombie" right in front of them? The burly camera guy rarely helped, no one thought about getting weapons or protecting their skin, the entire idea of putting everyone downstairs was silly to begin with. Lead chick had WAY too much crying, screaming, hyperventilating, and moaning.

Interesting premise, ruined by generic zombie cliches that only a 5 year old couldn't see coming.

Watching it tonite with guests... They're pretty excited! :eek:

This is the first horror movie that actually startled me in a loooooooong time. The mix was very well done with some nice bass to boot.

Ok, so now that I've watched both [REC] and Quarantine here are my thoughts. Neither were all that scary IMO. I thought Quarantine had a few more graphic scenes which I liked but Jennifer Carpenter and her camera man were so damn annoying that it distracted from the horror of the scary moments. Carpenter totally over acted the character and I just wanted some one to knock her out.

Manuela Valesco on the other hand was great, I really enjoyed watching her;) and she seemed very authentic. There were a few jumpy scenes but the only one I really found scary was towards the end. All in all REC is clearly the better movie and they are not scene for scene identical but close to. If it wasn't for Manuela Valesco it would have been pretty weak and to be honest I probably enjoyed Mirrors more as far as recent horror movie rentals.

I thought the movie was OK. The lead role was definately overdone as far as the acting though which took away from it a bit. The sound mix was awesome.

I haven't watched Quarentine to compare, but the end of [REC] just disturbed me. lol I like horror movies too. Perhaps it was the realism, I don't know. I agree the reporter in [REC] did an excellent job!

Absolutely agreed,it was some sort of rabies or something,the movie didn't explain.:)

Afterthought the premise of this film had really great potential to be a sleeper classic. But the ameteurish skills of the unexperienced director held it back from reaching it's potential. You can't help it to think that in better hands like say clive barker or the guy who did the descent would have taken off with this material yes?

A rental at best. I got this from Netflix and was FFWD through stuff. The female lead character aggrivated after a few minutes in and moreso with her constant irritating screaming. She got what was coming to her for bad acting (he,he).
