Ok - long story short.

I adjusted some settings in the service menu but, foolishly, I didn't write all of them down before modifying & saving them. Now the picture is a little grainy and can't be fixed via the normal picture adjustments. Although every TV set is different, many settings in this menu are similar. If someone out there hasn't altered their settings and could provide me with some of theirs I'm sure I can get the picture razor-sharp again.

First - choose an HD video source on your TV then shut it off. Then use the remote & press Display, 5, Vol+ and Power.

REMEMBER - Do NOT press 3 or 6 on the remote as this will change a setting.

Using the remote, go up 35 categories (press #2 thirty-five times). If you overshoot the category you can always use #5 to go backwards. The first setting I need (DHPH) will appear. Pressing #1 will bring up each additional setting I need. Press #4 if you need to go backwards. Each "x" next to "SERVICE" represents the value I need.

DHPH x SERVICE
DVPH x SERVICE
DHAR x SERVICE
DVAR x SERVICE
DHPW x SERVICE
DVPW x SERVICE
DYCD x SERVICE
DYSD x SERVICE
DYST x SERVICE
MDHP x SERVICE
MDVP x SERVICE
MDHS x SERVICE
MDHO x SERVICE
MDVS x SERVICE
MDVO x SERVICE

Now press #2 three times to go up three categories. The first setting I need (DHPL) will appear. Pressing #1 will bring up each additional setting I need. Again, use #5 if you overshoot the category and need to go backwards. Press #4 to go backwards if you overshoot an item. Each "x" next to "SERVICE" represents the value I need.

DHPL x SERVICE
DHSL x SERVICE
DVPL x SERVICE
DVSL x SERVICE
DHPR x SERVICE
DHSR x SERVICE
DVPR x SERVICE
DVSR x SERVICE

I think that should do it. Just power off the TV when you're done and you'll be in the clear. Please be careful to put the correct value with each setting in your reply. If this doesn't work I'll check a few more settings and try again.

Thanks so much!

Well, I had to go through all the settings that affect screen sizes & positions until I learned what they do and how they interact with one another. Now the 720p and 1080i images are "synced". Until today, if I had switched from the 720p image to the 1080i image on my satellite receiver, one was centered perfectly while the other was stretched and moved over. It's now resolved but I still have one problem:

The images on some channels are very grainy while others are crystal clear. This applies to both SD and HD channels. In fact some HD channels look brilliant when they display animation yet look pretty grainy when displaying a film or documentary. Even the station ID's and graphics on newscasts are sharp but the actual picture is still grainy. They used to be crystal clear. It's not simply an issue of adjusting the normal contrast and sharpness controls.

Again - any owners of this set who would be kind enough just to look and compare? I have a new shortlist of all menu items that could be documented.
