I have a Harmony 890 Pro. This remote works pretty good using the RF function when I am about 20-30 ft from the IR blaster, but when I go into my bedroom to use this remote, it doesn't really work. Seems like the remote doesn't work at about 30-40 ft via RF.
Is this normal? It's only going through like 1 wall, if that (down a hall and around a corner). Any help would be great.
Probably due to environmental conditions. The quoted range of "up to 100 feet" is under optimal circumstances. Other RF devices, specifically on the 900 MHz frequency but others as well, can cause interference. I had a setup once that wouldn't work more than 5 feet or so. There was a wall between the TV and equipment on the other side of the wall in the closet. The closet was not specifically an AV closet, but one where the customer kept his clothes as well. We tried positioning the extender in whichever way we could pull it with the power cable still attached but no go. It turned out that all the clothes were hanging on metal hangers and once the clothes and hangers were removed from the closet, everything started working smoothly.
On the other hand, it could be a problem with your remote/extender, but I would guess it's the former. You could test it at a different location to be sure. For example, take it to a friend's house and plug the extender in to power; take the remote 40 or 50 feet away, start an activity or select a device assigned to the extender and mash some buttons. You don't need anything other than the power cable connected to the extender for this test as the extender will have lights blinking if it's receiving RF signals from the remote. In fact, try that at your location first to make sure it's receiving signals from 30-40 feet, then try it elsewhere to confirm if you're so inclined (ie: move the extender to the other side of the house).

Thanks for your reply. I've been playing around with it and just can't figure it out. I suspect it might be interference, but I"m not sure what it is. I can't really test it out as thorough as I would like because I'm the only one here. I did get it to work a little better and from a further distance, so it might be interference. Just not sure what it is.
I will have to do some more research on possibilities of interference and test it out at another location.

I am not having your experience so I suspect an issue with your hardware. My equipment all resides in a dedicated closet in roughly the center of the house. I regularly use the remote poolside which is fifty feet or so away with a concrete block wall and an interior wall in between.

What if he has a Faraday shield in his walls and you don't? I would first assume it's environmental until proven otherwise.
To the OP: you can also try upgrading firmware on your remote and extender (doing it in safe mode may or may not make a difference, though do the other test I recommended first ... if that fails, I'd contact Harmony support first before continuing with firmware upgrades, as if you have to contact them later on you'll need to do all this anyways -- it's better they document the steps taken should you need a replacement for defective hardware, might save you time)

I went to my friend's house to test it out and it only went 30-40 feet. So maybe there is something defective. I wonder if it would be the IR blaster or the remote. I will contact logitech.
Wouldn't be the first I heard of it... they'll probably have you go through firmware upgrades on both remote/extender. Hope it gets resolved for you! Good luck.
