hello, idk if im in the right place but heres my question. im currently mixing and editing in 5.1 surround using apple's logic pro.
i have a firewire 410 interface and im using the 6 analog outputs for the 5.1 set up. each output channel 1 thru 6 individually goes directly to a speaker. is there a way to connect an optical cable from my blu ray player to the optical input of the firewire 410 and have it decode the information in realtime and playback in surround through the 6 analog outs to my speakers? i want to be able to watch movies as well as mix. i guess what im asking is how do i transform the signal from the optical cable into 5.1. is there some sort of software for this?

Most people here are not going to know what a "firewire 410 interface" is OR does. Got a link?

In your MIDI player on the Mac you can set the parameters its 4 in and
10 out and out of curiosity are you using an M-audio for this because its
set for this in specs for DD/DTS up to 7.1. The firewire connection is used.
