Hello
I am working with a Panasonic PT-44LCX65 projection
set that is going to need a new bulb. I have seen replacements
made by Philips for a fairly reasonable price. However I have seen
some talk about how some of the Panasonic sets can be pretty
temperamental about using replacement bulbs instead of the original.
Has anyone here had any experience using an different brand bulb
in these sets, and have you actually had trouble with them?
Or should I just stick with the original Panasonic replacement?

Next I am of the understanding that Panasonic has had some trouble
with their ballast circuit boards causing premature failure of the bulb.
I seen an older thread here that talks about a ballast update repair kit
for the model PT-50LC13. Panasonic p/n: LSUC0022

Is there a similar kit available for my model as well or has that
issue been resolved? The manufacture date on the set is December
of 2005.

I just replaced the bulb with the OEM bulb in December. The TV worked great again up until this week. Now i've got the temp light blinking once every 5 seconds. Funny thing is a couple of times we've been able to turn it on without issue. Last night I pulled the back off after the TV failed to come on again, I checked the Thermal Fuse; it was closed so no problem there. I disconnected all cables to the ballast cba and then replugged them and then the tv came on. I turned it on and off a couple of times without issue. Now this morning I'm having the same problem. Not sure if this is a ballast problem or a connection to the ballast.
