Hello... First off I'll start by saying i'm not extremely knowledgeable in the high def world. I've had my 42" NEC commercial display for a few years and finally determined that I want something bigger... In my search I've come upon a few deals/options and I'd love to hear some opinions/thoughts from people with a much greater experience/knowledge base than myself.

Set #1.) 64" Pioneer Elite PRO-710HD... Rear Projection. Apparently set has really low hours on it and is being sold at an incredibly low price. $550.00 dropped off at my apartment. (I can preview of course).

Set #2.) Sony Grand Wega 50" LCD HDTV (KF-50WE610) $600.00

set #3.) Samsung HL-S5086W 50" DLP HDTV - $550

set #4.) Mitsubishi WD-62525 62" dlp probably somewhere around 800-900..

Other options: Misc samsung and mitsubishi dlp models that range from 550-800 and are mostly 720p and 1080i with the exception of one or 2 1080p's that pop up around 700-800.. usually about 52".

Now ideally I'd like to stay in the 550-700 range. Economy sucks and have other more important expenses...

My uses: I watch movies... have a slightly above average surround sound... intend to put an antenna on the set for broadcast... possibly cable. I'm sure i'll pick up a hd dvd/blu ray/or ps3 in the near future.... currently the progressive scan setup is what i'm using. This will be my primary set and we use our t.v. quite a bit.

I guess I'm torn between the elite and a large dlp... other than sheer size/weight is there any advantage to the dlp? or any advantage to the elite? I'm really trying to make an educated decision so I don't worry about regretting it over the next 2-3 years.

Is the Elite set capable of keeping up with today's demands? Mind you I know that there are sets that will blow it out of the water... my concern is in the price bracket looking for a used television, what would be my best option?

I really appreciate in advance your opinions and assistance... I just want peace of mind.

More over.... the key being... which set and why. Thank you.

I have an Elite PRO 610HD and had it ISF calibrated.
IMO it will take a lot more money to get a better picture.
I have had mine for going on nine years and still enjoy the picture.

Nice TVs at Good prices..
They may last 2 months or 2 years w/o a problem.
You may want to save up a few hundred more and buy New(with a warranty)

if you want peace of mind do not get the mits 52/62x25 models at any price unless it came with a transferrable ext warranty (even a 5 yr wouldn't have long before it expired anyway).

they have huge failure rates on the bad capacitors they used on the boards besides issues with the internal mirror needing cleaning and other issues. i have a dead 62525 i am trying to get mits to help repair now. They are helping some mits owners but it's a case by case issue and would not be needed if they had put better engineering into the sets. of course other dlp have their own issues too........buyer beware......

best to just save up and get a new lcd/plasma/led dlp.
