I was thinking that it would be really cool to place a few standees in my HT against some walls I have that are not being used instead of hanging the usual movie posters. In my searches I am finding basically one type of standee, the cardboard flat type with an image printed on it, this type:

While those are OK what I really would like are the more intricate 3 dimensional standees that I see when I go to the movies at the actual cinema. Something like this:

Is there a source for this type of nice standee? I have seen a couple on eBay but would like to find another source if possible.
Thanks!

I have actually talked to managers at our local theater to see if I could purchase the 3-d promotional stuff. They said they have to destroy them after they are done by order of the studio advertising the movie so know one can profit off them. My B.S. meter went off the charts, I think that the e-bay sellers of these items are probably theater managers.

Wouldn't such props take up a lot of space. I have the cardboard cutouts, but all I did and put it behind a 2x4 frame and maybe attach xmas lights for effect

Yeah I always wondered what happened to all the awesome ones I see at theaters. There are so few on eBay it makes me wonder where they all go.

Depends on the individual standee, some are fairly large others not so much. How do you like those cardboard cutout type? Do they look good in person?

They're fine. The vader and r2d2 (not pictured) actually have a little voice box thats activated when you walk by it. It utters some SW dialog so its pretty cool. The best part was the price : under $10 each at the local thrift store

Unforutnately, this is mostly true. Our next door neighbor is the owner/manager of a local theater and I've asked him numerous times about the 3D stuff. He says the studio asks them to destroy or ship back the bigger items like the huge vinyl hangings, but lets them do what they want with posters and smaller items. He said some of the studios won't send any new stuff unless they've received the old stuff back. Seems like a bit of overhead to me, but I guess they want to be cautious.
As to the posters, I'd say 1 in 10 are actually still in good enough condition to be worth keeping. If the kids un/installing them didn't rip or crinkle them, the constant lighting fades them pretty good.
If you really wanted something bad enough, you could probably hang around the back of the theater looking for the kid that gets to throw the stuff out and bribe him. My neighbor's theater gets new stuff in about 8-10 weeks in advance of the movie, but might not necessarily put it up right away. You could easily ask the manager what his schedule for that is, though.

I'll also verify that they destroy or send the stuff back. Well, at least used to. Many moons ago I had a lot of friends at my closest theater. None of them could get me any of the big movie swag. :( As for the ebay ones, stuff always slips through the cracks.
