Would enabling DMZ on the router give me the best connection possible? I have a D-Link, DGL4100 gaming router. So from my cable modem it passes through the router > 1 port goes to my 360, I can enable DMZ on that specific port, but not quite sure if that is the best thing to do. I called xbox people but they did not know..I do hve game fuel enabled through the setup to supposedly prioritize specific ports..... Thanks

Go to Portforwarding dot com and follow the instructions for forwarding ports.

If you don't feel you're getting the best performance from that, setup a DMZ.

After that, check out the search function. It's pretty handy.

The following ports should be open from your router to your 360:

Port 53 TCP and UDP
Port 80 TCP
Port 88 UDP
Port 3074 TCP and UDP

This information comes straight from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874).

Is there a way to get keep the open ports constant you don't have a static ip? I have time warner and apparently my IP changes, but can I assign all the devices on the network a certain number that doesn't change and affect the open ports? Does this make sense? This is what I've got:

- DLink generic TW router
- 360 hardwired
- PS3 hardwired
- PC hardwired
- Mac laptop wireless
- Windows laptop wireless

Thanks in advance

Yes. I just did this on my PS3. You have to go to network settings, and type in the IP address you want. For example, on my network, the "internal" IP address of the router is 192.168.1.1. Every item that gets connected to the network gets an IP, 192.168.1.101, 102, etc. I set the PS3 to .115 and set .115 to the DMZ. To do this on 360, go into network settings and change IP Address from automatic (assigned by your router) to manual.

viper, I have the DGL-4300

If you ever add another Xbox you will have to take the original out of the DMZ. Go to advanced, enable gamefuel and make sure that dynamic fragmentation is not checked or you will have issues. Also go to tools, admin and enable UPNP.

Also make sure that your DHCP range(the range of IP addresses that your router will assign) does not include the numbers of the manual ports. For instance if you set your Xbox manually to 192.168.1.20 and that is the first manual IP address, PS3 at ...21, etc. set your DHCP range to 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.19 if not less on the second number.
