Now that it appears the Pioneer can be bought for the same price as the Epson 6500, would the only reason to buy a 6500 is the additional lumens? I am about to pull the trigger on one of these projectors but I am undecided. I think the pioneer would be a no brainer accept for the Lumen issue. I have heard some reports that the pioneer which is a spectacular projector does have some issues in a room that is not perfectly light controlled. My room is in the basement, but we watch a lot of sports with the lights on as we tend to have a lot of company watching games etc...I think they are both great projectors the Pioneer being superior in every aspect accept Lumen output which I think I need in my situation. Does anyone think the Epson is better in any other area?

Colors is also one factor that will go in favor of the Epson. The JVC (Pioneer) can do magic for some scene but could look very bad on others. I think the Epson is way more balance. After seeing both personnaly I would go with the Epson but I understand that some people not as picky on colors could go for the JVC. I think the JVC couple with a cheap scaler like the lumagen HDP that can correct some of it's shortcoming would be a big winner.
Just to make things in perspective I've seen the JVC RS2 the Pioneer FPJ1 and the Meridian in my theater. I even bought a lumagen scaler but didn't have enought time to evaluate if the colors correction capacity of the lumagen would be enough to make me buy a RS2 or one of it's clone.
My 2 cents. Other opinion would likely differ.

I was considering the same thing and ended up going with the closeout FPJ1. It was too good a deal to pass up.

Can't seem to find this, but is the JVC/Pioneer light path sealed to keep out dust blobs?
Thanks.
