Basically, I want to use my computer monitor to play my PS2 on, as I have quite the backlog (that's still increasing).

After much reading around, it seems my best choices are the StarTech VID2VGATV or the Crescendo-Systems RTC2200, with also the X2VGA 2 being a possibility.

For obvious reasons, there'll probably be some bias toward the RTC2200 here, but I'm not positive if it's what would be best for me. I don't know how good the internal scaling for the Dell 2209WA will be (my soon-to-be monitor, to replace my dying 2005FPW), so the scaling abilities of the VID2VGATV may be essential. On the otherhand, not all PS2 games are 480p, and it's not clear if that converter supports 480i, while the RTC2200 apparently does.

Another plus for the VID2VGATV is that it has a composite input, so I could hook up my Gamecube or Dreamcast and take a good crack at some old games for those. This, however, is not a priority, and, like the 480i PS2 games, I'm not sure if it'll support those.

So, what's my best choice for wanting to play my older systems on my computer monitor? Other suggestions would also be appreciated.

Really depends on what you mean by "480i support". Support in the sense of enabling you to navigate a boot menu is one thing. Support in the sense of playing a 480i game is something completely different. If you mean playing then you need a proper deinterlacing (plus scaling) device and you can check the link in my signature for all your available options.

A Lumagen HDP or HDQ video processor works very well converting 480i/p video sources to RGBHV (VGA) to drive a computer monitor.
