I just received my bd's of part 2 and 3 from amazon.co.uk well I have a ps3 and it plays back the movies and all the extras so I quess these are region free. Also they are not DNR'ed lots of grain. Audio is great well worth it to import if anyone is wanting them.

Are they uncut?
Nope, itīs the wuzzy R-rated versions.
If warner had co-produced and released them just as the original we probably would have Unrated versions outside of the US.
Curse you MPAA!!
The transfer on Part 2 is pretty good, the day light scenes show a lot of improved details, the night shots doesnīt gain much compared to the DVD though.
Part 3 though looks pretty mediocre and is soft through most of the movie, probably due to the 3D process, which actually is still visible in the back grounds in some shots as some of the edges is showing some red/blue separations. This one wasnīt really worth the upgrade.
I just wish that Paramount went back to the original negatives for these ones, as they donīt look as good as the original which used the Warner remaster. You can tell that the elements Paramount used hasnīt aged very well in the darker scenes.

FRIDAY wasn't shot (or even originally shown) in anaglyphic red/blue, so whatever you are seeing on the flat Blu-ray print can't be remnants of that 3-D system.
Like all the films of the time, it was shot with a camera which stacked the left and right images in a single 35mm frame, and then projected with over/under lenses, polarized light, silver screens and clear, polarized glasses.
The flat version is simply either the left or right image. The 3-D movies in the 1980's tend to look softer because basically the camera was only capturing half the possible resolution in a 35mm frame because of the stacked images. Basically, it amounts to 16mm look. Only SPACEHUNTER was shot with a dual camera (not dual lens/single camera) system at the time, so the flat version looks fine on that one.
The horrible red/blue anaglyph version Paramount released on DVD in the US is not at all representative of the original 3-D version. It could have been better if someone who knew what they were doing did the anaglyph conversion; as it stands, the images are misaligned so badly it is amazing it was released. Look at the anaglyph version with the glasses off, and you'll see one image is higher than the other, when they should be side by side. A real mess. Hopefully any US Blu-ray release will correct this situation.
Before you guys go buying these, dont forget a boxset has been announced. You might want to hold off.
The part2&3 was about Jason, the great killer as M.Myer.Part 1 was about his mom.

It's rumored - there is no official announcement from Paramount. It may be this year or next or never.

True, but if its gonna happen, it will be released in time for the new movie when it hits dvd. Im gonna wait 2 months and see what happens.
I've compared these to what was shown on Monsters HD and HDNET.
Part 2 is a big improvement; brighter more detail, more picture on all edges.
Better looking every way. The Monsters HD version looks way to dark during the daylight shots.
Part 3 a mixed bag. While the image is slightly sharper and brighter, the video is from a print with far more dirt, hairs and water marks. The print is from "the other camera eye" the shots are from a slightly different angle.
The increase in brightness and sharpness REALLY REALLY brings out the grain. At least we know they didn't use DNR. The barn sequence during the end has a little more green in it. Overall some parts I liked better, some worse.
I'm glad part 2 is my favorite. It's by far the best of the first 3 BR's.
