I have a HC5500 and when I use either DVE or Avia test dvd's I am not able to calibrate the contrast[2 gray lines do not appear]. Does anyone else have this problem and if so how do you calibrate your projector? Are there other discs or test patterns that will work? I tried both a blueray disc on my ps3 and also sd disc on my oppo.

Hi there,
Do a search in the *big* hc5500 forum for calibration. I had trouble also, and ended up downloading calibration software off of AVS and running it off dvd in my PS3. What screen are you running? If you're running close to a 1.0 gain screen you'll be pretty close out of the box. Also you can get some gamma calibration information from this review:

I have a DIY WilsonArt screen, and my contrast is set at 0 and my brightness is set at 3. After doing some critical viewing, I think this is pretty close to right on. I didn't mess with the color.
There's a lot of good information in the other thread, let me know if you don't find what you need-
