I'm an artist who creates video installations. I need a camcorder that can run continuously. I am only using it to shoot something and re-project it somewhere else in the exhibit, so I don't need to roll tape. The one I'm using currently (an old Sony DV cam) will time out and turn itself off when the tape isn't rolling after 5 minutes. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive model that where I can turn off the timeout? The only feature I really need is slow shutter speed.

Thanks!
Pat

with some of the old canons, you could open the tape door, and the camera would stay on... it's worth checking out on the sony.

Many Sony's allow you to shut off the battery saver feature. It might help if you mention the model number. And you didn't say how you were getting the video out and to what. I have output from camcorder to a computer via Firewire with the tape removed, with Sony and Panasonic.

Have you considered using a wired color security camera? A good quality one is not more more than a camcorder; and reliability, wiring, installation etc should be better.
