My Dear FRANK,it was released on HD-DVD already with DD+,the pic.transfer was not quite a decent HD for me.:)
giantchicken 02-23-09, 10:43 PM Paycheck wasn't, as far as I can remember. This might be confused with Mel Gibson's Payback.

gnj1958 02-23-09, 10:59 PM Three Days of the Condor? Oh hell yeah. Haven't heard about this one coming anywhere else though. Are DVD Empire accurate as far as upcoming titles goes?

At least interested in most of these, though there are a few I wouldn't see myself owning, but would still like to watch. Turning 20 in 2 weeks!
I will probably get The Machinist. That's the only one I'm interested in though.
raoul_duke 02-24-09, 09:29 AM Well I'll be... I was just thinking about Enemy At The Gates. Day one purchase.
Pony Canyon are releasing Sleepy Hollow + The Italian Job remake on April 1st with new specs (AVC + TrueHD 5.1) in Japan also. Wonder if we'll see Paramount redoing those for the US anytime soon (and all the other MPEG2 titles I guess).
Deviation 02-24-09, 09:51 AM There isn't a single title I would be interesting in buying. About two are worth a rental.
Enemy at the Gates and The Machinist make my list.

Unless they tie into a sequel (Italian Job maybe) don't hold your breath.
JBlacklow 02-24-09, 10:10 AM Unless they tie into a sequel (Italian Job maybe) don't hold your breath.Sequels aren't the only tie-ins. Tim Burton's producing 9 (which comes out this year) and directing Johnny Depp again in Alice in Wonderland, which hits next year.

You are correct. But Paramount has no reason to re-release Sleepy Hollow again. It was not a big film and was not a big seller on Blu-ray (or HD DVD). We will likely get a POTC trilogy re-release way before Sleepy Hollow. Double-dips on Blu-ray are only happening for "big" films - catalog titles are likely to remain left alone for a while (at least until Blu-ray clearly becomes the next DVD - if ever). It's very possible they will silently re-release the DD5.1 titles them with TrueHD tracks though.
MacAlert 02-24-09, 01:51 PM Enemy at the Gates for me!
Where is Titanic Paramount?
Henke007 02-24-09, 04:07 PM It has sunk with Paramounts 2009 slate..
JBlacklow 02-24-09, 04:30 PM It has sunk with Paramounts 2009 slate..
Less than 2 months into the year, and already the Chicken Littles are going on about how Paramount has "sunk". Never mind that they just made major announcements regarding Star Trek, which is essentially their flagship franchise, and that announcements are forthcoming on Indiana Jones, another enormous franchise. Never mind that they're ramping up TV-on-BD releases, or that they're planning on releasing big names like Braveheart, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Chinatown, The Ten Commandments, and the aforementioned Titanic this year.
Instead they have already sounded the doom-and-gloom bell for the entire year...based on announcements made in February. Amazing.
Dave Mack 02-24-09, 04:45 PM You are correct. But Paramount has no reason to re-release Sleepy Hollow again. It was not a big film and was not a big seller on Blu-ray (or HD DVD).
It actually earned over $100 million domestically and Depp is one of the biggest box office stars around nowadays...

yep. And that's why I made the comments earlier about threadcrapping. Instead of this thread being about what WAS announced it veers off into people arguing about what was NOT announced. Disrupts the flow of the thread and gets real annoying real fast...
Dex Robinson 02-24-09, 04:58 PM Never mind that they just made major announcements ...
Crap = "Big titles that everyone likes... except me "
Fantastic movie = "Anthing I like...even if it only made $14.00 at the box office."
I checked about a month ago and I seem to recall that GREASE alone has made just over $400 million in unadjusted dollars. Of course, if you are 17, that might not be impressive.
The Paramount slate is fantastic. I'm sorry that some people aren't impressed. Those are some major, major catalogue titles probably representing a billion or two box office dollars. For the most part, these were not only big money makers but, as I said earlier, some of them are iconic pieces of film history.
Nobody has to like them. That's Ok. We all have our own taste.
MSmith83 02-24-09, 05:15 PM I think that it's a nice selection with excellent films in their respective genres.
Three Days of the Condor is one film that really caught my attention when I first saw it a couple of years ago. It's truly brilliant filmmaking from beginning to end.
I'll probably be one of two people who buy it, but Major League is a movie that I can watch every Sunday afternoon and not tire of it.
Christian Bale may fly off the handle every now and then, but his preparation for The Machinist is the epitome of how dedicated someone can be to their work. That in itself makes the movie quite mesmerizing.
A number of unnecessary comments have been removed. Keep on topic.
Neo_Reloaded 02-25-09, 04:14 PM Paramount's been doing a good job announcing interesting catalogue titles (especially if the Indiana Jones rumors going around are true!).
From this list, I'd definitely be interested in 3 Days of the Condor, Paycheck, CSI - S1, Grease, Ferris Bueller, and Mean Girls. Add that to Dexter - S2 and all the wonderful Trek releases announced, and Paramount will be getting a very decent amount of money from me in the coming months.
Dan Hitchman 02-25-09, 06:36 PM Titanic will have to be approved by James Cameron. All of his films have to be.
No True Lies? No The Abyss?
He has to say YES.
This is the same with Spielberg and Lucas.
bplewis24 02-25-09, 06:51 PM I just saw 3 Days of the Condor a few months ago for the first time. I wouldn't mind renting it on BD to see it again. Very good flick.
Enemy at the Gates is one of the last 5-10 movies I actually saw at the theatre. I'd like to give that one another rental as well. If it's as good as I remember it with a good enough transfer to match, I might buy it.

I don't think that's accurate. TRUE LIES and THE ABYSS are awaiting his approval of HD transfers. TITANIC already has an approved transfer ready to go.
lgans316 05-09-09, 05:48 PM Some of the caps posted at highdefdiscnews from Paycheck BD looks quite good.

Got a look at this one yesterday. Very nice looking transfer. Excellent contrast and black level. Solid colors without being "overdone". Sharp and clean, but not over processed. If you like the movie, this is eye candy to add to the fun.

That's good to hear, looking forward in watching paycheck.
dvdmike007 05-10-09, 05:21 AM Over the last few weeks SKY-HD had Waynes world and Waynes World 2 on with "new" HD transfers.
The first movie looked great, good grain structure and detail, the second was a soft DNR mess, I hope the BRD's improve the matter
lgans316 05-10-09, 12:39 PM Even Enemy at the Gates caps posted by Phloyd at the AV Spec thread look very good.
Patsfan123 05-16-09, 10:57 AM The Machinist grabs are up on DVDBeaver. No DNR from what I can see.. Looks like Paramount is finally getting the message.
3 Days of the Condor (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews45/3_days_of_the_condor_blu-ray.htm) looks to be pretty good as well. Beautiful grain structure in most of the shots, though there's some odd fraying around edges in the shot of the control centre, similar to the DNR'd example of Star Trek II (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=16471613&postcount=1363).

Looks pretty good imo
MSmith83 05-16-09, 01:24 PM 3 Days of the Condor (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews45/3_days_of_the_condor_blu-ray.htm) looks to be pretty good as well..
I don't think Owen Roizman will be complaining about this one. :p
mhafner 05-16-09, 01:33 PM The Machinist grabs are up on DVDBeaver. No DNR from what I can see.. Looks like Paramount is finally getting the message.
Looks like the European release some months ago. No DNR issues but some sharpening. Nothing serious.
mhafner 05-16-09, 01:38 PM Beaver has "Revolutionary Road" stills. Another transfer from Paramount that seems to be A grade. Nothing on the stills to complain about. Grain intact, no sharpening artifacts, no ringing, natural looking film like picture straight from the DI, it seems. Purchased.
AmishFury 05-17-09, 01:34 PM Even Enemy at the Gates caps posted by Phloyd at the AV Spec thread look very good.
you could have posted a link
http://www.blu-raystats.com/Stats/Details.php?u=1508
looking at the shots there... the thick EE from the HD DVD is not present in any of these shots
you can see some shots from the HD DVD here
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1050102
those shots convinced me to go ahead with my order
EDIT: and of course i forgot one important bit... the bluray will be the correct aspect ratio instead of the opened up 1.78:1 on the HD DVD

Very nice transfer to my eyes for a older catalog title.:)
