Doing some upgrading, previously had a RCA DirecTV HDTV receiver with VGA out, old DVD and VCR using composite out. Basically there will be two sources, DirecTV HD20 and a Aquos BD-HP20U into the Krell. The Crystal Image VS2.0 scaler does not seem to want work with any content above 480i on DirecTV . I have not even tried the Blu Ray yet. Will this scaler work with these higher res sources? I know the Zenith is only 720P, I am trying to delay a complete upgrade. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have
Krell Home Theater Standard
B&K Reference 7250
DirecTV HD20
Aquos BD-HP20U
Crystal Image VS2.0
Zenith Pro 900x

correct - 480i only as with many scalers of that generation.

Should I dump the Krell HTS if I go with a HDMI projector?
Thanks

I would keep the Krell unless you want the HD Audio via the new surround formats like Blu Ray.

Eric thanks for the help. I really want to wait to upgrade the Zenith Pro 900X, If I get rid of the Crystal Image scaler, what processor should I put after the Krell component out? Or should I switch sources at the processor?
Thanks

I would bypass the Krell entirelly for High Def Video sources. Hook your HD sources directly to the projector and switch your std def sources through your Krell then to the PJ. A good temporary solution that would allow you to keep your CRT would be to get a device that takes HDMI/DVI like the HD Fury 2 and converts the signal to an analog VGA out. I believe your Crystal Image has a VGA bypass.

I will only have two sources, DirecTv HDTV, and Blu Ray. So, HDMI 1.3 Switch to (or other switch), HD Fury 2 to VGA bypass to 900X ? My concern is being able to switch the HDMI sources.

Your Zenith cannot utilize HDMI (unless you have some mod I am unaware of). You really need to output component from both Bluray and Directv, and use an outboard switch. I would ditch the Crystal Image completely...

You could buy a new video processor which would do the conversion for you, but that wouldn't be cheap.

For simplicity, if I ran the DirecTv HDMI out to a HD Fury2, that into the RGB (DB15) input on VS2.0 then feed the 5 BNC/RGBHV to the Pro 900. This scenario will not work?

That would work but then you won't be able to hook up your blu ray player for HD resolutions unless you got a HDMI switcher as you mentioned or plug and unplug the HD Fury2.

Thanks Eric for the clarification. I was thinking of using this.

That looks pretty cheapish but if works - can't complain. As a temporary measure I bought an "Octava" branded switcher. It has auto sensing inputs. So if only your HD box is on - it will go that input. Similarly that same will occur for your blu ray player. Just consider the cost of the HD Fury, a switcher etc and then look at the price of a new entrly level projector and it probably won't be that different.

Yes but as others said, that would only correct for 1 source.
