View Full Version : Rumor: 24 Season 7 coming to Blu-ray on May 19
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/24-Season-7/11376
This is not an official announcement yet and the date could change. Personally I wish they would start with Season 1, but at least they are starting somewhere!
Mike
Edit: I changed the title so that it says "Rumor"
mistermoravec 02-24-09, 12:53 AM will season seven even be over then?
shadowrage 02-24-09, 01:18 AM will season seven even be over then?
Yeah. Like the day right before the 19th.:confused:
Fastest TV release ever. That date has got to be wrong. I would list this under rumor until a press release is issued.
I want my CTU briefcase with all 7 sets on BD.
MatthewT 02-24-09, 01:26 AM I want to see something official on this. Hasn't every season since the show went to a January to May broadcast schedule come out on the first Tuesday of December?
Brent Madden 02-24-09, 02:28 AM I'm seriously doubt that this date is legit.
giantchicken 02-24-09, 03:05 AM I'll believe it when I see it.
xraffle 02-24-09, 09:15 AM What about Seasons 1-6?!?!
FoxyMulder 02-24-09, 09:39 AM May 19th ?
Now that is quick....I hope they release the Xmas two hour special in the set too as i haven't seen that one but want to watch it before watching the new season and i don't want to buy the DVD.
I would have thought they would wait until later in the year so as to ride on the coat tails of the new series in January.

I'm pretty sure you are right, at least that is how I remember it. I always got my DVDs of 24 and The Shield in the beginning of Dec.
Morpheo 02-24-09, 11:55 AM ^^^^
Considering every season usually comes out on DVD somewhere in december, I'm sure the date is wrong.

Exactly. I'll wait for a more official announcement before I get too excited. Although, I'd rather they start from Season 1 and work up from there.
mt-parker 02-24-09, 01:31 PM Whatever date they release season 7 is fine with me, outside of Season 1, and 4 this has got to be the best season yet. Season 6 is about as unwatchable as Spiderman 3

Agreed. It’s kind of ridiculous to have a Blu-ray collection of this show and only have Seasons 7 and up. With other shows, that’s ok to do, but not this. They should begin with Season 1. What is wrong with FOX?

I have all of the previious seasons on DVD. Starting with season 7 on BD is fine with me. I have no intentions of double dipping on this show.

And why not? You’ll be missing out on a lot if you don’t upgrade your Seasons 1-6 DVD collection to Blu-ray. FYI, BD is 1080p; DVD is 480i. So, the difference in picture quality should be significant. I would double dip on my entire collection, if possible. The HUGE upgrade in picture quality is so worth it.
This could be accurate just like 24 Redemption episode DVD was released the day after the Airing on TV. It could be something new they are trying to improve DVD sales.

Um... I'm perfectly aware the technical differences between DVD and BD.
I would love to pick up Season 1 on Blu-ray even though I own the DVD. Same for Sopranos.

So, then why don't you want to upgrade?
There’s actually more to it than just picture upgrade. I hope you are also aware that Blu-ray will replace DVDs once they become popular enough. As more and more people are getting HDTVs and buying Blu-ray players, DVDs will be a dead format before you know it, just like VHS. I doubt it would be fun to own Seasons 1-6 on DVD and still have them when the format dies. That won’t be good. It’s always best to be prepared for the future.

I take it you've made preparations for the format which replaces Blu-Ray.

That won't happen for a long time.
How many times is an individual willing to pay for a movie/program on a particular format?
Using a movie (let's say "The Godfather" only as a loose example) as a barometer:
VHS/Beta = $30
Laserdisc = $35
DVD = $20
New DVD (Director's cut) = $20
BRD = $25
How much does one spend for the same movie? IMO... the jump in PQ of BRD compared to legacy DVD is not worth another $25 IMO.
When the "next" new format is introduced, I can't fathom the costs to "re-buy" material to replace my BRD's after I spent thousands to to upgrade all of my legacy DVD's. ;)

Yeah, I know. It’s a constant battle to get better and it can be annoying. I wonder when they’ll come up with a format that everyone will be satisfied with until the world ends. :D
Never.
Buy a state of the art PC today and in 2-3 years it's outdated/obsolete/underperforms. Almost the same with TV's lately.
The wallet determines what is "good enough" or "better". I personally do not/will not "re-buy" material that I already own on legacy DVD's. They look "good enough" to me.

Since DVDs are "good enough," then you're not interested in Blu-ray then?
MatthewT 02-24-09, 04:12 PM Not to get too far off the topic of Season 7, but I believe Season 1 was back in the day of Enhanced Widescreen or whatever they called it on Fox. I'm pretty sure that wasn't 1080p. I realize they can remaster anything, but it makes me doubtful we'll see Season 1 on Blu-ray before we see the more recent seasons.

These episodes were filmed, so these will look magnificent in 1080p
Anyone/everyone is interested in Bluray. I just don't think re-purchasing media justifies the perceived improvement of video quality. That's my opinion...

Yes, exactly. I have thousands of DVDs. And I will be very selective on what gets upgraded, and what doesn't. And sorry... but the first 6 seasons of 24 are just fine on DVD for me. I will buy any new seasons on BD though.
Scott Simonian 02-24-09, 07:20 PM I don't own ANY seasons of 24 on dvd. I would love to get them on BD though. In fact, that's why I haven't picked any up yet. ;)
Oooooohhh, DTS-MA on these too since they are from Fox. Heeheehee.

Ah I see! So BD is cool, but re-purchasing is not. So basically, with BDs, you're only buying movies that you haven't owned before. Not a bad idea. Seems like people here in AVS have more sense than the average person. :D
I think that's the problem Blu-ray is facing, which is why it's taking longer than DVDs took to become a huge success. People re-purchased their movies on DVD because it was a significant upgrade from VHS. With Blu-ray, most people don't feel that way.

Same here. I buy lots of TV shows on DVD, but mostly only the older shows that are 4:3 aspect ratio. For the newer HD shows, I don't mind waiting for the eventual BD release. It bugs me when they start with later seasons though. I don't want to watch the later seasons right now that I just watched on TV. I want to start back from the beginning.

same here, i hate the start with season 7 crap. esepcially for shows that i only go tinto late, would like to quickly start from beginning.
i totally refuse to pay for SD DVD. i mean you can record it off the TV in 2x the quality
PooperScooper 02-25-09, 06:30 AM Thanks all, we're done. Let's wait for the discs (or at least a date and pricing info).
