In the marketplace, but you have to chose "all downloads", and then it will show up. The 2 innings I played showed promise over last years game, but I still think that MLB 09 The Show has it beat again. Game-play has improved but graphics are not as good as the Show.

Is MLB 09 The Show still a PS3 exclusive? If I'm completely wrong just let me know. I haven't been following the baseball games very closely in a long time.

I played some MLB 2K7 with friends and was just amazed by the amount of bugs. Baserunners going without any instruction, you could hit homeruns on command, constant game freezes and crashes.

Have things gotten any better since then? I tried the demo for 2K8 last year and thought the pitching was novel, but stayed away because I saw too many comments saying they hadn't fixed many of the issues.

the show is published by sony so yeah it will remain exclusive.

Besides that, isn't the fact that it's a first-party game and not a third-party game the only reason its able to exist? I mean, with Take-Two being the exclusively licensed third-party baseball franchise and all. (And I still say the MLB gave it to the wrong developer ).

I believe that is the case with it being a 1st party title - I was wondering about that the other day and that is what I read.

There should be no exclusivity when it comes to sports licenses. Ruins the competition, and all we get is mediocre updates each year (see Madden as well). ESPN2K5 was the best football game, only to be ruined by exclusivity.

This demo is pretty decent. I'm not a fan of the default control scheme, but it's an improvement overall over last year. I can't wait to see more. I probably will rent before buying especially after the debacle of last years version...

I'm sure they don't care... $$$

MVP Baseball 2005 was the best baseball sim. :( Too bad MS wouldn't develop the code for it be backwards compatible.

I know its off-topic but if you're a fan of MVP 2005 as I am, you'll probably want to pick up the PC version anywhere you can find it, and check out MVPmods.com and EAmods.com, where they generally around the All-Star game release a mod for MVP05 to update it to current rosters and schedules, etc.

Basically my only option since I won't get a PS3 just for The Show, and 2K8's demo was horrible to me.

Edit: Just tried 2K9, and it's an improvement so far as I can tell, but I'll never understand why developers make demos and then don't actually give you any option to see the controls for the game. And the little pitching tutorial they give is horrible. To throw a pitch that's more effective are you supposed to have the yellow circle fill the white circle, or how is that supposed to work?

Interesting they are still updating the MVP series. MVP was the best far and away. The 2K series was a real disappointment in past years. I'll give this years demo a shot, but it hasn't been anything but "The Show" for me the last couple of years. The one good thing for 360 users is that the 2K series had always run better on the 360 vs. the PS3, maybe that's not the case anymore though. But I can't imagine they even sell but 3-4 copies of the 2K series for the PS3.

Yeah, the graphics aren't all that great for the MVP05 engine anymore, the commentary sucked then but its worse now, and it doesn't support widescreen, but it's just a lot of modders who have been squeezing every last bit out of it over the past few years. Some things I didn't mention in the other post are that they update stadiums (including the real ads), can change the difficulty, camera angles, pretty much anything.

To get back on topic again though, I played another game of the 2k9 demo, and I probably won't be buying it. It seems like an improvement over 2k8 as I said, but overall I'm not too impressed.

I bought 2k8 last year and swore that would be the LAST 2k baseball game I ever bought...but dammit, this demo isn't half bad.

They finally uncluttered the scoreboard area, backed the camera up a bit in the pitcher view, sped up the time it takes to deliver a pitch...

This game has made its way onto my radar now.

I played the demo last night and it's much improved from the previous demos I've played.

I miss the days of 2k3. This new era of "wait til next year," or "hey, we have a great foundation here!" are BS.

Downloaded. Improved but lacking if you've played The Show lately.

If you're hardcore enough and have money to part with in these wintry economic times, The Show on PS3 truly is worth purchasing the system for if you're diehard baseball fan enough. Absolutely amazing.

Agree 100%, The Show kicks A$$ and there are a couple other decent games, (plus getting a BR player) that make it enough to justify the purchase of a PS3 in my eyes.

Wow you pretty much summed up my PS3 usage. The Show is that much better though.

I have to chime in here as on the PS3 side there's not even a thread about the MLB2k9 demo. I downloaded it for the PS3 last night and had I not been accustomed to the Show I would've said this is a half way decent game. Anyone who's big into baseball owes it to themselves to get a PS3 only because of MLB The Show and yes it is that good. Anyone who's been a fan of MVP (the 2nd best baseball franchise) would feel like the Show just picked up where MVP left off (minus all the nice throwback stadiums that MVP had).

If you have a nice PC it might be worth while to check out the PC version over the 360 as well because I bought the PC version of NBA 2k9 and its a nice step up over the 360/PS3.

And most importantly, isn't this the last year for 2k to own the MLB license? Wasn't it a 5 year deal? If so, maybe EA can get back in the game and at least provide a step up for 360 fans when it comes to baseball games.

I'm not much of baseball, but I have enjoyed a baseball game, or two, over the years. I like MVP 2005 on the XBox, and MLB: The Show 06, on my PS2. I downloaded the MLB 2K9 demo a couple of days ago and I was surprisingly pleased with it. The announcing is almost impeccable... I couldn't believe the level of contextual dialogue in which the play-by-play and color guy were engaing... and this is in a <1 Gig demo!? I thought the game atmosphere was dead-on!!

Where I'm uncertain about MLB 2K9 is the actual gameplay controls. I can live with the batting controls, and particularly the pitching controls, but where it seems to be missing is in fielder control. Too much of what I'm experiencing seems to be on autopilot. I feel much more immersed in fielder and baseman control in The Show 06. I need to give MLB 2K9 a chance with a Gamefly rental before I pass total judgement though. I have a strong hunch that the demo is locked at the easiest gameplay level.

You guys touting The Show 09 on the PS3 are not helping me in my effort to be satisfied with MLB 2K9:p. As much as The Show 06 has impressed me on the PS2, I have little doubt that I'd be as awestruck as you guys are with The Show 09, and its potential on the PS3.

That's something that I've thought since the earliest 2k games on the original Xbox, the fielding just isn't very smooth. That's one of the huge advantages that has always lead me to prefer MVP in the past, though over the years they have gotten a little better at this in the 2k games.

The problem with the exclusivity period being almost up is EA would have to start from scratch pretty much at making a next-gen baseball game, so it might not compete for a while anyway (unless they've been secretly developing it for years, but doubtful with the license up in the air like it will be.)

Ok, I just played the demo, and I have to say that I like this year's pitching than last year. I'll have to add it to my gamefly queue and play it and see if its worth purchasing.

If EA does swoop up the MLB license, I hope they make a worthy replacement. And speaking of EA, when does their NFL license expire? I feel like Madden has run its course. Time for someone else to take over and do something new with it. To me Madden has turned into a cashcow roster update every year.

<--------Hopes for the return of Tecmo Super Bowl. Now that would be awesome to see on the 360. But one can only dream for now, I guess

Did you play the All-Pro Football 2k8 game? It felt horrible to me, I much prefer Madden.

And Tecmo did make a new football game, but only for the DS.

So I'm about 16 games into my franchise (restarted after the new patch came out). I must say the new patch makes the game much more enjoyable. I'll probably just play the 20 games then sim the rest out, see if I get any achievements.

But I must admit, the main reason for posting as resurrecting this 3 month old thread (which I know people hate) is this video. I cried. To me it was that funny..hopefully it is to you too....
