Hi All,

Apologies if this isn't in the right place (new here). I have just set up my Yamaha 863 (HTR-6180 actually) and am having a problem getting my computer to display on my HDTV. I have a Mac G4 with a Radeon 9000 grahics card.

Using my DVI to HDMI cable, if I run the computer directly to the TV, I can see my computer's display fine. However, if I run it into the Yamaha first and then take the HDMI out of the receiver to my TV, I see the computer start up (Apple screen) but as soon as it finishes booting, I see a flickery image of my computer desktop, then my TV goes blank and displays a bad signal error (Samsung 46D82U tv).

Note that all other HDMI inputs to my receiver pass through fine to the tv.

Any ideas or help on this would be much appreciated. I wrote Yamaha about this but received only eerie silence in reply.

Thanks Much,

Jim Rider

Consider yourself ahead of the game and quit there. Seriously.

If you're stubborn or just a natural born tweaker, and really really want to force your Mac video through the Yamaha, then look for any of the past threads here about going through an AVR. Some have found that a Gefen DVI Detective helped.

I'll look into that Gefen box thanks.

My problem is that I only have one HDMI cable going to my tv (inside wall). Yes, I could run another one but it's a hassle.

Thanks!

Jim

I'm sending my G5 PowerMac output to a Monoprice HDMI switch. The switch also has my Sony DVD changer going through it and the output of the switch is going into one of the HDMI inputs of my Onkyo 706 AVR. No problems. Not sure if that info is any help but the Monoprice HDMI switcher seems to help.

I think the fact that the O.P. has a Yamaha AVR and you an Onkyo is a far more salient difference. Presumably your HDTVs are different as well.

I connect successfully a Mac Mini Intel to a Sony VPL-VW100 in 1080@60p through a Yamaha RX-V3800.
The link is :
Mac Mini -> DVI-> Gefen DVI Detective -> DVI_to_HDMI -> RX-V3800 -> HDMI -> VPL-VW100

Before that successful link, I had problems with a Yamaha RX-V2600 (which did not support 1080p, but your amp does) and for the lack of the Gefen DVI Detective.
If you buy it, make sure you get the latest HDCP-compatible version, just in case sometimes in the future Mac OSX finally supports Blu-Ray (miracles sometimes happen :) ).

If you still have residual problems after that, look into Switchres X which may help if it is only a configuration problem, and not some hardware incompatibility.
