A PC built into a wall wart!

"Priced at $99, inside the SheevaPlug there’s an ARM-based 1.2GHz Sheeva embedded processor, 512MB of DDR2 memory, 512MB of flash storage, gigabit ethernet and USB 2.0; in fact the development kit is available now."

Enough power to play good SD/DVD's at least, assuming you could rig up video out...

This is the smallest form factor I've seen:

The gumstix (http://www.gumstix.com/) are pretty small, too.

...knew someone would call me on the "smallest" issue-

OK, it's the smallest >1Ghz Linux PC? :D

I'm really not too sure how useful that rj45 PC would be. It's just really small. It's not anywhere near 1Ghz, though.

I've got a friend at work who has a gumstix. Those are really nice, although they're not 1Ghz, either. They don't use the Atom, so it's not really an apples to apples comparison for clock speeds.

His gumstix isn't in a case, either. So putting it in a case would add some size to it.

I do like the look of the wallwart case, although the rj45 and USB connectors appear pretty close.

Nice for NAS and routing, I guess.

I'm still wondering how much the ION's are gonna cost...

I'm having trouble getting Flash running from this device

:)

I am thinking it makes a perfect web/mail server tho... Been taking one of those Kill-a-watt meters around the house... my "server" box (old PowerMac G4 with lots of internal drive space) is ~15% of my annual power bill. Ouch.

Me too... low power, good graphics.. yum. My only concern would be wondering if Flash will ever

a) go away
b) be able to make better use of the GPU (I'm still hitting >100% CPU usage for full-screen even with 180.29.. I can play mpgs at <10% CPU with VDPAU).. not sure an Atom will suffice for Flash :(

We need to hammer Adobe to enable VDPAU in their embedded Flash video codecs...

Or a different tactic.. I haven't played with gnash much.. could they use VDPAU to leapfrog Flash in performance? (or are there DRM things in the newer Flash that gnash can't do) ?

I haven't looked at gnash, and I don't know about the drm stuff. Sounds like a possibility, though. They prolly have a mailing list or something where you could ask the devs.
