For those of you old enuf to remember, I have the old a/b style cable outlet in the livingroom. Connecting either one to the TV doesn't work, however running a "modern" coax cable all the way from outside works fine. The "old school" wires have been tested and passed for continuity. Can I just buy a Y-adapter of some kind to simulate my old wall connection into a modern wire at the wall? Is this clear as mud?
The A/B cable systems were actually 2 completely separate cable systems. Yes, the same company owned, operated, and maintained them. But each had its own channel lineup, along with amplifiers, taps, etc. If both were still active, it would be combining channel 2 of one system with channel 2 of the other system, channel 3 with channel 3, and so on.
R.F. distribution is more than just continuity. There must be some other reason that the outlet is not passing r.f.
Plano?

Well, I've read its about bandwidth, and the old cable can't do digital bandwidth, so I thought maybe I could combine the two old cables into one modern cable with a "Y" adapter inbetween.

you'll be combining two signals with the same carrier frequency together...it won't work. nothing to do with bandwidth.
