Do the RF remotes also have IR capabilities? For example, all of my equipment is located in a closet, but my projector is obviously located elsewhere...will the remote be able to turn the PJ on/off as well as the stuff in the closet?

What is the cheapest option out there?

RF remotes, are IR only controlling devices, that uses its own RF frequency to do it from afar.

Look at the URC RF10 or RF20.

i understand how they work, i'm just wondering if they are capable of doing both RF commands (to control hidden components) as well as IR commands (to control the display which isnt in the same location)

Any RF remote can also do IR. All that the RF base station of an RF system does is convert the RF command received into an IR command the component can understand. I would imagine any remotes software (I know this is true for Harmony) lets you decide during setup if you want to control a particular component via RF or with the remote itself via IR. There are IR only remotes, but I don't think there are any RF only remotes.
