I'm trying to connect my laptop, with Ubuntu 8.10 installed, to my receiver (it's a Denon AVR-789). The laptop's only video output is a single VGA connection.
I've found several DisplayLink derived devices for USB external video cards with DVI connections, but they don't produce Linux drivers and a Google search indicates that no one in the community has created one yet either. I've seen VGA to component video, but my understanding is that the VGA connection outputs the signal in an RGB format, while the component video inputs on the receiver only accept YPbPr signals. My hope is to get it connected for as cheap as possible, as I ultimately intend to replace the laptop with a new HTPC that includes HDMI.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
