Hi Guys...............new to this forum, so please excuse if this has been asked before.
I want to buy a really good HD camcorder. My budget is approx $ 900-$1000. Which is the best camcorder you can buy with that? I want something which is compact and is a basically point and shoot type. I would be using it mainlly for recording my son`s Equestrian sports.
For me the important aspects would be size, friendly menu, low light capability and picture quality. Also good still shots would be a bonus.
Hope I get a good no of replies guys. I need it.
Some models which interested me were the Sony HDR-SR11 and the Canon HF11

the sonys are being replaced by the xr 500 520v v models, supporters of canon and sony will always give a rather biased view,i can say my sr-12 takes very good filming, has good stills for a camcorder and is very well built.
Which Brand makes the sr-12?

the sony sr 12 is the same as the sr 11 exept for a 120gb hard drive compared to sr11s 60gb.
Tell me one thing, if you record in HD format on your camcorder is it true that you will not be able to dowmload it on to your PC or burn it on a DVD?

of course you can download hd format to your pc and then make dvd, avchd or blu ray discs with the right software and burner as far as blu ray goes.
Thanks flintyplus for the info. Went yesterday to the Sony showroom and here in India they have not released the XR 200 or the XR 520 but have released the XR100E. This model has hybrid storage including a 80GB hard and flash. The still photo is taken on max 4 magapixel. Do you have any information on this model. Give me your thoughts on this.
Thanks in advance.

If you PM me, I'll help you with the Sony.
