I am trying to build a custom screen for a projector for a video production project. Basically, we were trying to create a frosted glass screen that a projector would shine, in full lighting, that would be recorded with hosts on a video show.

I couldn't find frosted glass at any local stores, so I thought I would try buying a sheet of plexiglass and then cover part of it with some frosted glass appliques. I tried this today, with a layer applied to both sides of the plexiglass but the result is a slightly "blurry" image rather than something crisp like we see if we just hold up a sheet of poster board.

Do you think there would be a noticeable change in brightness using REAL glass instead of plexiglass with appliques?

The projector I am using the Sharp XR-32X rated at 2500 lumens and 2200:1 contrast.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

ask in the DIY screen forum..also, only put the image plane on one side. rear will be sharper, front will have less glare.

We've used 3M's Vikuiti stick-on rear projection film with good results in high ambient light ( trade show ) enviornments.

I make my own 35mm adapters for video cameras using spinning glass, which project the image onto the frosted glass, and I've played with plastic as well, and glass is superior in my opinion, its clearer and sharper. You could frost your own piece of glass, but it would take a while. I use aluminum oxide powder which is pretty cheap. The 5 micron grit would give the clearest image, but take longer to make. its pretty cheap stuff, you'd probably only need a pound. The owner is a nice guy and can probably give you some suggestions. http://gotgrit.com/index.php/cPath/2_7
