View Full Version : HELP with Component to HDMI
Sephiroth088 02-25-09, 01:42 AM okay so here's the thing I need to take my XBox with Component video and have it go into my PC Monitor, I know they already make HDMI to Component adapter boxes; however, I need to also take the PS3 and my Computer with and HDMI out and also hook it up to my monitor. I've been looking like crazy all over the place for a switch that will take my XBox Component and put it through to HDMI that also features 2 HDMI Inputs and 2 SPDIF Optical Inputs and 1 Optical out with of course 1 HDMI out. so the list is: 1 Component input, 2 HDMI Inputs, 2 Optical Inputs and 1 Optical output 1 HDMI output. I have looked - to my knowledge - everywhere, all I keep finding is HDMI Switchers 3x1, 4x1, ect. 1 Component in 1 HDMI out, 1 Component in Optical in s-vid in and HDMI out. But nothing to where I need. The whole point is not to have to buy a receiver or an extremely expensive box $150 max. and Yes I have thought about getting and HDMI 2 in 1 out along with another box that has the Component in HDMI out and hooking them together but then there are too many bypasses the connections have to go through losing quality or increased risk. basically a whole new can I don't want to open. Yes I know it won't upconvert.would be very nice to be 1.3v for HDMI, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My receiver does that just fine.
The most simple solution might be to sell your XBox and get one with HDMI out.

Word. You will spend less doing this than you will buying a receiver or converter box that will do what you need it to. YOu could probably get around $125 for your current 360 minus the HDD, then buy a new Jasper Arcade for $200. That gives you HDMI out, plus a new box with a better chipset and a fresh warranty.

best post thus far ^
Sephiroth088 02-25-09, 01:04 PM Yes I could sell my current XBox wich leaves me without an XBox assuming it is sold ( I don't know how much Game stop will buy it for) but this still won't solve my problem for getting ( assuming I get the Arcade XBox ) now 3 HDMI inputs with 2 Optical In and an HDMI out and 1 Optical out which could be possible I presume. Though I don't want to have to sell my Xbox for $120 buy the Arcade $200 ( total spent thus far $80) and then still have to buy the Converter box which I have seen go from $60 - 300 and up obviously I wouldn't buy something that expensive but at the cheapest price assuming it has all of the In and Outputs I need (3 HDMI IN Optical IN and HDMI out and 1 Optical out) already puts me at $140. Assuming the box has everything.
Sephiroth088 02-25-09, 01:06 PM sorry 2 Optical In 3 HDMI In 1 HDMI Out 1 Optical Out. I forgot to put 2 Optical In

That's less than the $150 you wanted to spend. :D
Sorry I'm really no help.

chrisherbert 02-25-09, 01:55 PM If your monitor has a free VGA input, you're much much better off using that rather than some crappy component to HDMI converter. Even if it doesn't have a free VGA port, get a VGA switchbox.
You also might want to thing about leaving behind these complicated mousetrap contraptions and get a real receiver or a real TV with multiple inputs. I struggled through these homemade setups for years and I can tell you from experience -- they aren't worth it!

Wise words indeed. Just buy a real HDTV and connect away.
To the OP do you have a regular job?
markc72 02-25-09, 05:49 PM Just buy the xbox Vga cable like I use. Works fine and you could find it on ebay pretty cheap. The idea of selling the xbox and getting the new arcade is a really good idea too. Why waste your time looking at a converter and spend $100?

But you said "The whole point is not to have to buy a receiver or an extremely expensive box"
Yes, I know receivers can take a component signal and send it through HDMI or an expensive device like the one you linked to.
