My husband is on this forum all the time, but this is my first time so be gentle...http://z09a0222gshv273.imageshacknow.info/img/3044/e09e0225fewt/tongue.gif

I was wondering if someone can make a suggestion for an HD 1080p projector to upgrade the one in our rec room. It will be used for movies and my kids have a Nintendo wii.

The only criteria is that it has to come from Amazon. The reason, I work for them and I get a discount http://z09a0222gshv273.imageshacknow.info/img/3056************************

I really don't know anything about these things, so any help would be appreciative.

Thanks so much!

If he is like me he always talks about the units he is interested in. If you can remember the name of a few of them it may help everybody figuring out some of the features, or performance items he may look for. Also the price range is also a must.

wiigirl,

A quick Amazon search (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw_2_10?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=front+projector+1080p&x=0&y=0&sprefix=front+proj) shows 8 1080p projectors, none of which are the newer models, several are not available, none are actually sold by Amazon (so your discount may not work), and all seem to priced higher than you can get elsewhere. I suggest you do some research here (http://www.projectorreviews.com/) and here (http://projectorpeople.com/) before you make a decision. The projector I chose is the Panasonic AE3000 and I'm extremely pleased. You can get it for around 2500 dollars at Projector People if that is in your price range.

Hopefully this will help get you started. Write back if you have more questions. You must love your husband very much. I'm sure we're all envious. :)

JVC RS10 would be a perfect choice for a rec room.

If you can find out what projector you have now, and what (if anything) you think he's interested in, that may help.

You are an outstanding wife!

You might want to see (IE: call Jason at AVS!) if you can find a dealer with any Sony VW60's left. A lot of performance, and probably a good deal to be had somewhere.

Another vote for JVC RS10 or HD350. You try and see if you can get it via amazon, maybe you can pull a string or two. If not the JVC then perhaps a Sony HW10, Sony VW60, Epson 6500, followed by the Panasonic 3000U. Those would be my picks in that price range.

And as others implied youre an awesome wife in my book. Enjoy the new PJ.

Why not pioneer fpj1 ? Better than rs10 it seems, unless its a screen over 110", and cheaper right now.

Do you have a sister that I can hookup? J/k. It is awesome to see a woman shop electronic stuff for their spouse.

I pay my own stuff and still get the look from the wife

Lots of options under $4k...at the high end, the RS10 is a great option. Going down, you can get into the Sony HW10, Pioneer RS2 clone (while they are still available...discontinued), Panasonic PTAE3000 or Epson HC6500, etc... I would start going any lower than those since there are certainly benefits to the above list and all are still well within your price range.

As another said, Amazon may not be the best deal, even with a discount.

Is Your Husband a Shopper?

Important note - a shopper feels uncomfortable letting someone else do the shopping. I would not, for example, feel happy about my wife buying stuff for me. Granted, asking AVS members helps a lot and changes the shopping landscape, but I would much rather buy stuff for myself.

I kind of agree...first you're an awesome wife, second, you might just get him a card with pictures of the 4 pjs you're looking at (and an "other" category) and let him circle the one he wants.

I can say however, that if my wife picked out a projector that was above my price range (in the "dream list") that I'd think she was awesome and keep it regardless. Heck, spring for an ISF calibrator to come out and tweak it to your room (or have Jason at AVS tweak it before it comes).

Whichever one you choose will be great...did we mention you are an awesome wife?
