View Full Version : Upconversion of SDTV via HQV chip?

Howdy professionals of AVSForum, I have a small question to ask. I recently got great deals on both the Onkyo TX-SR875 (w/ HQV upscaling) and a new 46" Sony XBR6 TV. The TV is arriving next week, and I'm upgrading from an old 32" CRT on standard def. coax-through-the-wall cable.

If I use an RF-demodulator on the coax cable, and plug the RCA's into my receiver w/ HDMI running to the tv, will the SD cable upscaling be worth it? If so, what type of RF-demodulator would you recommend, the only thing I've really found is VCR's online to the tune of about $80, but I'd never use the damn tapes.

Any input is appreciated, thanks guys.

Just plug the coax from the wall directly to the TV and you're ready to go.

Wouldn't that bypass the HQV chip entirely? Are you saying not to use the upconversion? Sorry, I'm confused :(.

Using the scaler in the A/V receiver would probably be of benefit if you were to connect a non-HD DVD player, VCR, or perhaps some gaming consoles.

Alright, thanks guys, I'll see what it looks like when the XBR comes in tomorrow. Turns out I found an old vcr w/ coax in and rca out so I can try it both ways for free.
