I'm changing out everything I have after many good yrs with the Denon AVR 3300 and Snell E IV mains and NHT sub, center, and surrounds setup in 5.1. I have a large room, 22 x 22 x 8 feet. The new 65 Aquos will be on the wall with new Emotiva/Outlaw/some separates running the show. Also Panny Blu-Ray. New mains are Onix Reference 3's, center is Ref 100, and rears are Ref 1's (so far only 1 pair, looking for another pr of Ref 1's to complete 7.1). My question is: The rears in my 5.1 are now in the rear corners up high. The wife wants the chairs/sofa as far back as possible in the room, with about 1 ft behind. So I think I have 3 options for 7.1 rears:
a. come across the room up high and have one pair kind of over my head (say 6 ft out from the corner), and the others right in the corner.

b. same as a, but with 2nd pr about 6 ft down the sidewall towards the fronts (neither pr in the corner, both about 6 ft out from it)

c. one pr in corner, others about 6 ft towards fronts, down side wall.

In any of the above placements I may put the speakers on stands and not elevate them up high.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I am new at this 7.1 stuff.

New at this, wasn't sure just where to post, copied over to the speaker forum.

The wife wants the chairs/sofa as far back as possible in the room, with about 1 ft behind.Stick with a 5.1 speaker layout (no room behind you for the rear speakers).

Putting the side speakers 6 feet in front of the listeners is a bad idea (sounds intended to come from your sides will instead come from behind you). Putting the rear speakers above you is likewise not a good idea (sounds intended to come from behind you will instead come from overhead).
