Circuit City has the Mitsubishi for $500, I am tempted to buy it as my first projector.
Is this a good deal?
I have read about the rainbow effect on these.
I have this projector and love it....very few people have issues with the RBE. I would try it.

Just remember that if it is broken CC won't take it back.
gwlaw is right but you would have the Mitsubishi warranty to fall back on but you probably will be stuck with the model. Just cross your fingers that you dont see rainbows.

Is it new in box? Our store has 2 PJs still, an HD72 and an x3...both have over 2000 hrs on their lamps and they are still trying to get $600 for the optoma and $300 for the x3.

I would check out the lamp hours for sure. If it has a lot of hours, you can be assured you'll be buying a replacement lamp soon.

Hi guys, just reporting back.
It was brand new sealed in box. I was away on vacation so didnt have a chance to play with it until last night.
I checked Hrs and it was at "0".
I did pull up the test pattern and did notice the rainbows, lots of them...that was when I was wearing my glasses. I checked out the PJ this morning while wearing my contacts and the rainbows were all but gone. PQ is real nice. I am coming from the sony 60a3000. Rainbows were slightly there when playing television program.
I dont know why I saw more rainbows with my glasses on than with contacts on...I will check later on tonight with contacts to see how it performs at night.

Turn the brightness down some and that will help.

Thanks, I will try that tonight. I got some settings from projectorreviews dot com that I intent to also try out.
This is what they say to use
Contrast: -3
Brightness: 3
Gamma: Auto
Color Temp: Medium
Brilliant Color: 0
I am using my wall right now. I have a light beige wall. I plan to make a screen the DIY way.

Just reporting back,
After I used the settings on projectorreviews, the RBE is barely noticeable. I can only see it in very very bright scenes where I have to turn my head.
Otherwise, PJ is very very nice. Now to find out what to do with my Sony RPTV.
