I know that most people here use MythTV, but I ask if anyone is using (or has used) VDR (http://www.cadsoft.de/vdr/features.htm) because I definitely want to use XBMC as a frontend for Live TV, etc., and it appears that VDR has better support in XBMC than MythTV does ATM (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45314); e.g., you can change channels while watching Live TV, and you can schedule recordings, etc.

It's true that I would miss Mythweb, but my question is: if anyone here has tried VDR, what is your impression of it?

I've use it. It was created for watching satellite tv. It works good for the propose it was built for. It takes a lot more work to get it working but once you have it working it rock solid. You will need to use different plugins for additional features such as watching ATSC tv. Also, it is not as pretty as Myth.

Thanks, erod20. I've just begun researching free-to-air satellite, and if it turns out that I can get more HD channels than OTA, then it might be worth an investment. It's good to know that VDR can do ATSC, also.

As for being pretty, I'll be using XBMC as the frontend, and the screenshots look pretty nice. :)
