I am very close to buying my friends Panny AE900 projector. He does not know how to fix it and doesn't want to pay for it. He is selling me his 450h bulb, 100" screen and the projector (which doesn't work) for $300. Is it worth it?

I think I can fix it because he said he was watching tv, and the pixels started to go out of focus and fuzzy. Turned it off immediately and didn't turn it back on for 2 weeks. Turned it back on and something smelt like burning. Now the projector won't turn on at all, no lights what so ever. This brings me to believe that it "should" be a power supply problem. With the picture diminishing and the burning, the power supply was on its way out. And with nothing happening now, there must be no power at all to the projector. Is there any other ideas what this problem could be? If it is a power supply issue, how much do they cost/repair cost, and is it worth buying all that for $300 plus repair fees.

There is a picture of the screen before it messed up of it going fuzzy and out of focus, I can post tomorow. Don't have it currently.

What type of screen is it?

Essentially, that is the only thing of value.

The projector really is not worth repairing and will most likely end up costing you more than buying a new entry level 720p which will outperform the AE900.

It could be the P module, but it could be something else also. I'm still working on someone's here that had a failed P module, then the ballast went after I replaced the P module. If you want to try it, a P module is approx $89 from panasonic, but I'd agree w/ the previous poster, its definitely a gamble and there could be more wrong.
