Set up: Samsung 5054 with DishNetwork 722 STB. Out of curiosity ran a component cable in addition to the HDMI cable to the TV. I swear the component HD picture is better ( at least to my and my wifes eyes ). At first I thought it was in the menu settings being different-made them the same, still better component picture. Maybe a poor HDMI cable, maybe the sourse
channel?

Personally, I cannot see any difference between HDMI and component. You could try a different HDMI cable, or maybe you have some sort of interference from the stb itself. But I do not know how you would test that.
A "better" HDMI cable will not make a difference. It either sends the 0's and 1's or it doesn't.

Maybe he has a sharp bend in the cable, read plenty in regards to a bend degrading pq. I would lean more towards the stb myself or the source.

Your eyes are fine. Few who note differences tend to say the colors are richer with component. With HDMI, the image is sharper. Just my 2 cents.

I think its just the set has different internal picture settings for different sorts of input (why they do it I don't know), and you like its internal settings for component more. After all IMHO the first thing plasma does with analogue component signal is transforming it into digital one and in the best case it should be identical to the one transmitted over HDMI.
BTW that thread says that your STB can have some issues with HDMI cables

This has been my experience when using component vs. HDMi with video games.
