Hey guys,

Did a search on this and couldn't find any info.

I have a Pioneer Kuro 151FD. Every now and then (usually within the first 10-15 min of firing up my TV for the night) I get this error from the TV which says something like "Possible short detected in speaker cable. Shutting off internal circuits for safety." or something like that. My TV then turns off. I can turn it right back on and there are no problems. Nothing bad happens to the picture or my sound. I have a set of the Logitech Z5500s hooked up to my TV through a good quality optical cable. I've checked the connections and nothing seems to be wrong. Everything was bought brand new and they have been working fine for several months.

The last time I ever saw this error message was when I first had my old Logitech Z680 speakers hooked up to the TV in the same manner. As you can imagine, this is not the kind of error message that is pleasant or comforting to see, so I ditched those speakers and got the Z5500s which have been working great (I live in a condo) for many months.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I should do to a) stop getting this error message and b) make sure nothing bad happens to my TV? My precious, dear Kuro?

Thanks all!

PNB

I have the same issue.

I posted about it a while back.

It has not happened in a good while. So I am content now, but if it happens again, i am gonna have to call pioneer.

Personally, I think this is a result of the volume being up too loud and the speakers not being able to handle the load. but thats just a guess. If I keep the volume at normal levels I never have an issue.
The only time I see the problem is when there is an extremly loud instance in a moobie.

here is that post.

Hey guys,

Something strange is happening with my 151 every once in a while.

While watching a movie that has a loud burst of sound, the TV will display an error message and power itself completly off.

The error message I get is this:

"Internal Protection Circuits Turning Power Off... Possible Short in the Speaker Cable"

This has only happened about 7-8 times since I have had the TV, It rarely ever happens, and the Tv always powers back on, but it has me a little concerned.

the first time it happened, I went and bought some High quality Speaker cable and replaced the speaker cables going to the TV speakers.
So there is no short in the speaker cable.

It seems to only happen when there are extremly loud bursts in the movie.
I had it happen a couple of times while watching the blu-ray "Hulk". which has some VERY loud moments in the movie.

Today I was watching the Blu-ray "War" on my PS3, and it did this.

It happened in the movie when jason stratum was at the shooting range and the loud gunshots started.
The TV powered off and I decided to grab my camera, rewind the movie, and see if it happens again .
It Did.

So I have a snapshot of this happening.

here it is:

Have any of you guys seen this?

Just wondering.

I guess I will give Pioneer a call and see what they have to say about it.

So far none.
It hasn't happened in a long time.

If you wanted to be safe, you could replace the speaker wires in the back.

But replaceing the speaker wires did not do me any good. It kept happening regardless..

Since it has not happened in a long time, I havent called pioneer yet..

I think I may still give them a call just to be safe and get the problem on record. Just to make sure that this is not a sign of some other problem.

I don't want to tell you not to call them.
THe best thing to do is to call them just to be safe.
