Wondering if it is worth upgrading to the Mitsubishi 6500? They dropped a lot in price so its actually pretty close to the Mitsubishi 5500. The 5500 has a $300 rebate with a free replacement lamp. The 6500 has a $200 rebate which ends today. I'm wondering if its worth it to go up to the 6500. Anyone have experience with both or a good opinion out there? Thanks in advance.

They are both fine products. The better rebate is a major plus for the 5500. I have the hc 6500, but almost bought the 5500. What changed my mind was the drop in price to under 2k. Rebate or not, you are getting a very nice projector for that price. You should read Art's review at www.projectorreviews.com He sure liked the 6500 better and I think thats when the retail of it wasn't nearly as low as now. On a side note, Ive seen the panny 3000 in action at a local dealer and the hc 6500 on the opposite wall. The black levels look comparable to each other with a slight edge I must say to the 3000, but the sharpness on the mitsubishi was ALOT crisper than the panasonic 3000. Plus it looked brighter with both being calibrated to optimal movie viewing settings. That with the price made my mind up right there. Personally I think you are getting all the benifits of an lcd projector with the color accuracy of a good dlp. I love mine.

I was in the same boat...deciding between the 5500 and 6500. I went with the 5500. I admit the $300 and spare bulb rebate was a nice incentive, but I was in awe of the picture the 5500 put out in the dealer's showroom. I didn't think I would notice whatever improvements in black levels or whatever between the 5500 and 6500 once I got it home and installed. I am amazed every time I turn it on and anyone that has been over and watched it always have that "wow" factor. If the 6500 is in your budget, I'm sure you will love it, but if the 5500 fits the budget better, I can assure you that you will love it as well.
