I've had this Panny plasma (HD ready, 1366 x 768 pixels) for around 18 months and tonight was running a few comparisons of Blu Ray vs DVD PQ using my Panny BD-35 and Oppo DV-981HD.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, this display only has two rear HDMI ports (HDMI-1 and 2) and one on the front (HDMI-3) - I'm using HDMI-1 for my cable (MySkyHDi), HDMI-2 for the BD-35 and the front port HDMI-3 for the DV-981HD (I don't use the Oppo much now I've got Blu Ray so I just have the HDMI cable tucked away behind my entertainment unit and plug it into the front port when necessary).
As I was toggling between the three HDMI inputs, I noticed a quite dramatic drop in brightness with the HDMI-1 and 2 inputs - this was particularly evident on the AV menu that appears on screen as you change inputs. Brightness reduced a touch on HDMI-1, then significantly more on HDMI-2, then increased on HDMI-3. I swapped my cables around but still got the drops in brightness with the HDMI-1 and 2 inputs. When I switched the MySky over to the HDMI-2 port the PQ was awful...really "washed out" is the best way I can explain it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I plan to contact Panasonic here in New Zealand to discuss this problem but I wondered if there was anything else I could do at my end to test/rectify. Now I'm on board with Blu Ray I want the best possible PQ from it on my display but if there's a problem with the HDMI-1 and 2 ports/connections then I'll probably have to run the BD-35 into the front HDMI-3 port and that's not a particularly "tidy" cabling option as far as I'm concerned.
Any help much appreciated!
