hello all,
I had a Pioneer Elite dv-47a and a Denon dvd2200. Both I used for dvd's sacd and dvd audio, and as a cd player. Today my needs changed a bit as I own HD dvd and Blu Ray. I spin cd's , sacd and dvd audio disc's and wanted a HDMI over player that can send everything.
I picked up a Pioneer Elite dv58av and found a few things about it I don't like over my older player. But It can send everything VIA HDMI and thats why I upgraded my other players.
I really liked the dv47a over the dvd2200 hince why I went with another Pioneer Elite player.
I looked at a few Marantz players but no dvd audio support.

Is there any other players out there you feel are better for this duty? I'm assuming once I go HDMI , the few things about the control over the 5.1 analog outputs will be a mute point.

Thanks,

Dan

If the upcoming Oppo BDP-83 is within your budget, that player should be worth waiting for. It will do more including Blu-ray and should do everything better than the Pioneer DV-58AV.

It does not look like the Oppo BDP-83 plays DVD-Audio.

I'm not allowed to post links yet, so you'll have to go to Oppo's site.

It will do so shortly. The player is not in its final release yet.

Sounds like you have got BD and HD-DVD covered with existing source equipment. On that basis have a look at the Oppo 980

Oppo DV-980H via hdmi. Cheap, and good enough to displace my Denon 2900.
