Hello all, i took the projector down from ceiling and installed 1.09. Then I tried centering the image again, and on maximum zoom i'm able to get the image on one source (a blu ray player) to fill 100% of the screen (just bareyl), but then when i switch to another source (directv DVR), i noticed that the image doesn't fill the whole screen (there is a sliver of black/no image on the right side). If I manually shift projector image to the right to fill this sliver, then I get the same problem on the blu ray. Any thoughts? Is the only solution to move the projector back more so as to enlarge the image?

How long have you owned the replacement? Do you know if Epson looks for convergence issues and other problems before sending out as a Refurb these days?

Seemed like some would have to swap 2-5 times before getting a good one. I was wondering if Epson improved the refurbs and starting getting the replacements right.

Must get expensive for them to keep replacing and repairing. At some point you would hope Epson would realize this and start doing a better job on the Refurbished Projectors.

Perhaps those of you who have sent in your projectors more than once could comment on Epson improving the quality of their Refurbs or not?
Have had the replacement for about 3 months now. No problems at all. Runs like a champ. I've been buying high end gear for decades. My expectations are high, but I am not one of these people who looks for the tiniest little flaw so that I can return/replace the device. No electronic gear is "perfect" and I'd rather enjoy using it than worrying about whether the converenge is 1.25 pixels off, noise level 0.1dB out of spec etc. Many people are, and that's OK with me if that is one's passion. Dealing with Epson was easy (which is not always the case with electronic equipment vendors). The replacement unit stays focused, convergence is off about 1 pixel, does not overheat, doesn't rattle, etc. I'm quite happy with my decision to purchase this unit and would do so again.

I'm now being completely ignored by Epson when asking that question. Two previous incidents were opened and closed with no response. I opened another one today, but am not holding my breath.

I just called Epson whose level 2 technician insisted that there were no firmware updates available for the 6500UB. Can someone send me one? My email is jeremycolgan@hotmail.com.

Hello all,

I am in a situation like Therat1, with a Japanese projector without language selection menu...

If someone can send me a private message with the latest firmware so that I can try to have english menu, it would be very nice to him.

Thanks !

FWIW, all three of my tickets were eventually responded to - all on the same day. Not sure why the backlog, as Epson is usually very punctual in replying.

I tried, as suggested on this site, to contact Epson for FW 1.11...

The firmware 1.11 fixes specific problems. If you are experiencing any problems with your projector, please identify those problems. Firmware 1.11 is not required and is only given out if you are experiencing problems with your unit. If you are experiencing problems, you will need to contact our technical support line to speak with a live technician. You can call the 1 800 number on the PrivateLine card that came with the documentation of your projector and use the PIN number on the back or by calling 562-276-1300.

With that, if someone could please send me the FW, please PM me.

You just have to ask for 2nd level support to get the firmware from Epson. Never speak to first level support. They know very little about the projectors.

I had the same hope but the firmware upgrade doesn't change the language, even if you go for the firmware coming from the US

Anyone know what the thermal issue that 1.11 fixed. I have not heard of that one? I have 1.09 and wondering if it is worth the hassle to upgrade? I dont think mine is having any issue.

EDIT:
I see i misunderstood some previous posts. I believe it was stated that 1.11 addresses the temperature issue. I thought that meant thermal temperature. I am guessing this really means the tempurature "color" 6000K, 6500K, 7000K etc? So does 1.11 changes how each of these setting decode the temp color?

Just got off the phone with Tony @ Epson support and asked to get FW 1.11 and found out that FW 1.11 addresses the thermal temp issues that some are having with their units overheating. As mine is problem free, he advised me to not update as it wipes out all the settings. (Bulb life, Light engine etc...) He specifically stated that the FW update targeted this issue alone, no other benefits. So, unless your unit is overheating, there is no need to update to FW 1.11. :) Hope this answers some questions that you, like me, may have had.

Merry Christmas.:):)

Hello all -

Been a while since I have been looking things up here, but recently ran into some issues with my 7500UB, after 1312 hours on the bulb, running the 1.05 firmware. Based on what I have read, looks like at least two of these issues have already been noticed by all?

1 - The PJ goes out of focus at least once a week. If I have it dialed in, I need to make an adjustment at least once a week as it appears to go out of focus. This happened a little when I first got it, but appears to have gotten worse recently.

2 - I have seen massive degradation in the picture quality in the last week. The brightness of the PJ has diminished dramatically. I only have 1312 hours of on the current bulb, which I believe is rated for 5000 hours? At this point it seems a little too soon to see that kind of degradation on the current bulb, so am wondering if there isn't something more wrong with the PJ itself? We have to run the PJ in "Vivid" mode since the other modes are now far too dark for us to watch any material.

3 - Frame interpolation does not work at all. It has never worked that well in any medium I have tried it with. I have recently read that there was a firmware update to address this (1.09?), which I have not yet done.

The bulb life seems way lower than what it was originally rated, so I was wondering if I could get some clarity on that from others here. Maybe what you are seeing, and what you think is normal. Needless to say, I am not going to be very happy if I have to replace this bulb every 1300 hours.

Also, it is apparent that I should prolly upgrade the firmware. Is there any chance I can get a copy of 1.09, 1.10 or 1.11 from anyone on this forum. I figure that might be the first place to start. If so, can someone please email it to me at milamber36@gmail.com.

Thanks in advance!

Rob

Hey everyone....

in digging around the latest 9500ub manual I saw that epson now has discrete rs232 commands available for engaging the anamorphic stretch (and I desperately need this on my 7500ub.)

So..I downloaded the 7500ub manual and it now shows an rs232 command for the anamorphic stretch also.

I've had firmware 1.06 laying around here for a while, so I finally installed it,and although it gave me discrete on/off, it did not enable the new serial codes.

I can call epson advanced support tomorrow, but I was hoping to program this today. So if anyone has 1.09 or 1.11 they would be willing to email me, I'd really appreciate it!

tony@monogramcustomhomes.com

thanks!

I had the same hope but the firmware upgrade doesn't change the language, even if you go for the firmware coming from the US

Thanks for the info ! So it would be in Japanese for life as for Sanyo camera.
Now that I am used to Japanese menu it is finally not a really big issue...

I think they would never release such a thing but an upgrade for better FI is now the only thing that I am expecting ! :)

all hope shattered.
i, unlike Jesus army, cant get the hang of Kanji to the degree of playing with all the settings...
i am unhappy with the FI performance as things are still too blurry for me - hoping for a new FW or tips on setting the projector up for better performance.

thanks.

Yes, it is getting old. Epson does not like their firmware getting posted for everyone to freely download. Contact them directly.

You can check your firmware by doing the following:

Press and hold the Menu button on the remote control or on the projector’s control panel for at least 8 seconds, then release.
• Within 4 seconds of pressing the Menu button:
a) Press and release the ESC button twice,
b) Press and release the right button (right arrow on remote)
c) Press and release the left button (left arrow on remote)

This does not work. Is there another way?

Hi all,

i own this lovely PJ for about 6 months now and recently i ran into an issue which is bothering me a lot.
I got the PJ connected to an Onkyo 876 Receiver. I play HD content using a WD TV Live connected to the same receiver. Now with all the video options on the Onkyo set to ''through'' and and the WD TV Live HDMI on Auto i get no signal on the PJ.
After some 3-4 days of trying all possible combinations i found out the following: for any resolution up to 1080p 24Hz set in my WD TV Live i get picture on the PJ. However the PJ will not show anything if the WD TV is set to 1080p 50Hz, 60Hz or Auto mode :(.
All tests done with Onkyo set on ''through'' as if I try to set the receiver HDMI to force 1080p it will try on 50-60Hz, thus resulting no picture. There is no setting in the Onkyo that can make a difference between 1080p 24-50-or 60 Hz, its just plain 1080p.

Does anybody know if this PJ is supposed to play 1080p 50 and 60 Hz please?

Many thks and sry for the long post.

Yeah I've also had issues with HDMI on certain videos, particularly the Harry Potter blu-rays special features. I think it may be a PAL issue. I haven't updated firmware since original pre-orders went out so don't know if the newer firmware updates address the issue.

Anyways, how about sending a firmware update here: crackyflipside@gmail.com

Hi all,

I've run through 4 bulbs during my warranty period and despite them being rated at a 4000 hour half life, not a single one of my bulbs has lasted over 1,300 hours.

Fortunately, Epson has replaced every one of them free of cost and I always have one spare on hand so the inconvenience is minimized.

I keep the filter clean, try to never turn it on and off and it is mounted on a ceiling which does not have anything other than attic above it.

Temparature and humidity are controlled.

Now my latest bulb is at 1,500 hours and not showing any signs of dying.

The secret, I enabled the Altitude Compensation feature which causes the fan to run at a slightly higher RPM. I do not notice the extra noise which is slight and this seems to help my bulb life.

I am not at a height altitude, but recommend this to you all especially if your bulbs have died prematurely.

This has been a great projector at a fair price and despite the bulb issues, we will be buying Epson again once this unit is past it's prime as the new Epson 3D PJs are once again outstanding value. Epson stand behind their products.

Take care,
Mike
