Which Vegas version is the best for editing video transferred from a Canon HF11?

The Platinum and the Pro version would work. They both have the same look and feel to them... same interface, but the Pro version of course is FAR more detailed, quite a bit more expensive too.... but IMO... worth it.

What are some of the things you can do with the Pro version that you can't do with the Platinum version? This sale makes the Pro version alot more appealing. Thanks

Well, you can often get a legitimate copy of Vegas Pro 8, new in the box, from Ebay or elsewhere, for around $300 to $325. The sale, while a substantial discount off their regular full price, comes in at $357.50. Just FYI.

Also bear in mind that even on the official sony site it is *much* cheaper to buy one of the cheaper versions (e.g. Movie Studio) and then upgrade it to Pro, than it is to buy Pro outright.

For example (in the UK)...

Movie Studio is £39 + upgrade to Pro is £248. Total cost £287.
Buying Pro outright costs £456.

So the upgrade route saves £169.

I was about to buy Vegas 9 Platinum through Sony with their 35% off sale, but checked Amazon and found that Amazon was cheaper with their free shipping (versus $9.95 shipping from Sony).
Amazon's prices seem to change almost daily, so just be sure you check around before buying direct from Sony.

Yeah, i've noticed this on a number of products. sometimes up to 5% difference from day to day. Definitely check a bunch of places before you buy http://************************************/img/2464/i09b0128lrvx/smile.gif

Interesting find for those with the cut down BH version of Vegas pro (you know... the one without the dolby ac3 encoder)

I've been looking for a way to get uncompressed multi channel PCM onto Blu Ray and I seem to have found it.

Create your 5.1 surround wav file then use TSmuxer to mux with your video and output it as M2TS. I haven't tried it with other players.... but it does play back fine in the PS3... all 6 channels come through.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the Sony site shows the upgrade path is good for the following (direct lift from their site):

Upgrade to Vegas Pro from Vegas

Upgrade any professional version of Vegas (Vegas Pro, Vegas Audio, or Vegas Video, Vegas, or Vegas+DVD) to Vegas Pro 8.

Could someone show me a cost effective upgrade path from a non-pro version? (Movie studio, platinum, platinum pro, etc.) Platinum pro is not listed as a pro version on the Sony web site.

Thanks for your time

Platinum and Platinum pro are not separate and independent versions. They are "editions" of Movie Studio 9

The official name for Platinum pro is:

"Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro Pack"

In other words the upgrade price is based on Vegas movie studio. Your upgrade price would be $425.95 (download) minus 35% = $276.87

The upgrade path doesn't seem to be quite such a good deal in the US as it is in the UK, but it still saves a bit...

(ignoring current 35% discount)

Vegas Movie Studio (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/buy/moviestudio?disp=1) $55
Upgrade to Vegas Pro (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/upgrade/moviestudiotopro?disp=1) $426
Total $481

Compared to $550 to buy outright (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/buy/vegaspro?disp=1), so saves $69, which is not as good as the £169/$240 saving with UK prices.

It seems to me that they really haven't thought about their pricing much at all. In the UK the £169 difference is just insane. Less so in the US, but $69 is still a fair amount of money to be taking from people for no reason at all.
