I have a MX20 flash camera and the camera uses the IA-BP85ST‏. i have tried generic batteries and replacement batteries and none of them will work.

is there something special in a genuine battery that the generics dont have to make it work?

i would like to know if Samsung has done something to either the batteries or camcorder that don't allow them to be used.

Yeah, I found the same problem. The MX20 does, indeed, check for anything other than a genuine battery and shuts down the camcorder within about 30 seconds. I have an external charger so I know the replacement battery was fully charged. In fact, using the "quickcheck" button on the camcorder shows the battery at 100% charge.

Time to complain to Samsung and find a lawyer who'd like to initiate a class-action lawsuit. This is just like the printer mfr's who try to prevent the use of third-party ink cartridges.
