Hi all I'm pretty new here and have been reading a ton before upgrading all of my 15 yr+ equipment. I have the Onkyo 705 and am looking to get the PM 800's (front and back) PC1000, and still researching the sub (I cant really go with 1000's due to size). I was originally looking at the PS 800, then the PS1000 but I keep seeing mixed reviews. I want my sub budget to stay in the 300-400 range. My living room is small, 12x10 and opens to the dining room of the same dimensions. I listen to 60% TV/BD and 40% music. Also I keep seeing recs of the svs subs but they are a bit larger then the PS's. The max measurement on any one side of the box is about 15" for the space I have. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. I have also seen the HTD Level 2 sub but havent seen much on that one?

The "problem" that I might see is your size restriction. There are big expensive subs and there are smaller expensive subs. The problem I see is a small inexpensive sub. Most of the subs that are in your range will be pushing that size limitation to the max. The Dayton subs are known for being great bang for the buck choices. For instance
This 12in sub is 18in deep.

They have a 10in that is 15 3/4 deep.

But because you have an open floor plan you may not get what you expect. Now, the Dayton 10 inch is $131.80 each. You could get two and stack them and you would still be under your budget.

So you want a sub that is no larger than 15" x 15" x 15" for $300-400?
The dimensions will be the toughest thing, but the Bic H-100 at 17”H x 15”W x 18.25”D will be close. It is also one of the best subs for the money. You can pick it up on eBay for around $250-300 shipped. It also looks like they have a newer model out called the VK-12 which has similar dimensions for about $50 more.
If you have a little more space, the accepted recommendation in your price range is the Elemental Designs A2-300 at $350 shipped. This driver will do things most will not in its class, namely extend deep and provide great performance for movies. The space requirements may be tough for you though. It is 18"W x 18"H x 21.5"D. You won't be compromising for the price at all though, and it will fit into your budget.

I agree with Thirdeye. If there is ANY way possible you can squeeze a larger sub then 15x15x15 in your room, that A2-300 is the way to go.

i may be able to stretch it a bit. we are thinking of switching our living room around a bit so i will update if so. I think as long as 18" or so is only in one dimension I should be ok. I will check out those subs, thanks all :)

What brand are you refering to? I have no idea what PM 800's are, nor PC1000, nor PS800.
Thanks

I read a little on those subs and saw some mixed reviews on the Bic. I saw alot of good about the eD. My next question is if the SVS PB-10 and the eD A2-300 are close in performance and quality? I dont think I have seen a bad thing about the SVS subs. I know the SVS is a llittle bigger then I wanted but if the performance is that much better then I may try and make it work.

Hey Sean...I suspect you intend to load it into a corner by your description, so expect some boost down low from the placement. The negative is that sometimes such a placement will excite some nasty room modes that may be offensive for music listening. Given your limited size footprint and placement i stongly suggest a sealed subwoofer but finding one in your budget is going to be difficult except for the DIY approach. PM me if you're interested...Dollar for dollar it's by far the best option if you have access to some very basic tools.

Mayhem, the sub actually would be a good 4 ft from any corner. most likely it will be more towards the middle of the room against a wall (the living room and dining room actually connect so I guess its one larger room overall about 24x12). If this helps in any advice to give let me know.
