Hello All,
I am making this is has a seperate thread has the post popular WD TV thread is way too big to read.
I would like to share some undocumented info regarding WDTV HD player for taking longer times than usual for identifying 1TB HDD's and scanning all the time even after scanned multiple times previoulsly, below is the procedure to make it work faster.
1) The HDD has to be formatted to NTFS (if you want) and NOT using the convert utility since this has some quirks with this utility.
2) NOT to use the Format window in windows explorer since the options being used below are NOT available.
3) At the command line prompt, TYPE - format F: /FS:NTFS /A:8192 (Letter F being the drive letter, /A option being the cluster size)
Apperently, the default cluster size is the real problem here. You have to use only command prompt for this to make work as the cluste size (8192) is NOT given in the Format GUI window.
This above procecure has been tested and works successfully. It used to take 10-15 mins before, now takes only a min (this is after the WDTV has indexed the content on the HDD).
WD customer support doesn't even know about this problem. I have talked to Tier 3 support personal. Their simple answer is to use the approved list of HDD's only.
