Hi all.

I have a Russound CA system in place in my home and would like to add a media server. The Russound system will accept analog stereo via RCA plugs, and can relay IR commands from a IR remote from any room. I currently have two 400 disc CD changers in the system, but would like to add the convenience of a media server.

I have several Pronto remotes that can be programmed with the IR codes to control the server. However, seems like I remember a wi-fi capable handhelfd PC that could control a server or PC for music playback. This would (maybe) give some two-way intelligence to the user, instead of a "dumb" one-way IR remote.

I know Russound makes a media server for its newer CAA systems, but I'm not interested in an upgrade to those units now. (I have 16 zones and multiple CA units, so an upgrade would cost a lot.)

I have a few older PCs laying around, that could be used as servers, if that is an option.

I would appreciate any guidance you "digitheads" could provide.

I'm a little confused: do you want a unit with an IR remote, like the title suggests, or one that "would (maybe) give some two-way intelligence to the user, instead of a "dumb" one-way IR remote"??

Thanks CD. Sorry about the confusion. Guess it reflects my own confusion.

An IR capable solution would fit pretty seamlessly into my existing system. However, if the solution had the two-way capability, that would be a nice bonus feature.

Anyone?

Maybe you need to better define what you are looking for, when you say "two-way capability". Also, this question might be better suited for the Remotes forum?
